Carrier Wildcat replacements
Getting a little frustrated with the almost complete lack of replacements for fighters on carriers. Sitting in Noumea for days and days doing minor repairs, supplies at 250K+, yet no budging at all. VF squadrons sitting at 5 Wildcats out of max 27, and 6 out of max 36. Meanwhile, new Marine fighter squadrons filled with Wildcats are generating on the West Coast and Pearl. I have every Marine fighter squadron in existence on ‘no replacements’.
What am I missing? Am I obliged to having to use Marine fighter squadrons on my carriers for the rest of this year (it’s August 13, 1942)

Posting some images of the issue, if possible, would really help. Otherwise, it usually takes round after round of questions to begin to bracket the answer.

If you keep spamming the board with 5 of the same questions, I am sure that your problem will be solved.

I don’t even know what this means. By spamming do you mean I’ve asked once before about this, months ago? It’s a continuing problem and no one seems to know why this happens, so I asked again in case somebody a little more knowledgeable about the game happens to visit the forum.RangerJoe wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 4:09 pm If you keep spamming the board with 5 of the same questions, I am sure that your problem will be solved.

I think he's referring to this post having cloned a few times on the forum. However, this can happen unintentionally sometimes too.Bella wrote: Sat Sep 21, 2024 7:38 pm I don’t even know what this means. By spamming do you mean I’ve asked once before about this, months ago?

Re: Carrier Wildcat replacements
Are there any Wildcats in your Pool?
Every version of every plane has a production timeline and a limited number of airframes to be produced each month for mostly limited durations of time. Some airframe types continue being produced to the end of the game, but most have limited durations.
Learning how to track this is extremely helpful in determining how many squadrons can be outfitted with the type and for how long before the production runs dry.
See the attached screenshots.
Go to the Intelligence Report and select Aircraft Pools.
The to columns bounded in Green tell you how many airframes of that type you will get per month.
Clicking on the Yellow Airframe Name (always click on Yellow text to see where it leads and what can be done there), Reveals information about the airframe type and the Duration of production (bounded in green).
As you can see the F4F3 has a very limited production run of only 3 months. You won't have many of those airframes to work with before needing to upgrade to the F4F4.

Re: Carrier Wildcat replacements
As mentioned, some screenshots would help. One thing that could possibly help you is "upgrading" your Marine squadrons with Buffaloes, which would then put the Wildcats in the pool. Anyway, more info is required.

Re: Carrier Wildcat replacements
As I mentioned in another thread: The big obstacle to downgrading is that most of them cost 50 or 100 political points per squadron! Early in the game, this is just not affordable! (one of my pet peeves - it should not cost to change models if PDU is ON).CaptBeefheart wrote: Mon Sep 23, 2024 1:41 am As mentioned, some screenshots would help. Re: Carrier Wildcat replacements
Good tip about retro upgrading. I guess the high political points cost was implemented to prevent just that. It is a bit gamey. Who downgrades to a worse aircraft? I’ll still try it.
Re: Carrier Wildcat replacements
I do downgrade. I would rather have a full complement of Buffaloes for rear area CAP as well as training instead of just two Wildcats in the unit. There are other reasons for downgrading air units, I will let you figure out some of them on your own.Bella wrote: Mon Sep 23, 2024 8:52 pm Good tip about retro upgrading.
