1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
I don't know what I hit.
But all tree disappeared from the map. I could not get them back, but when I started and reloaded, they were there.
I took a screen shot. Never saw this happen before.

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
That is very odd. Did this happen after playing for several turns without exiting out? Maybe similar to the problem with the disappearing movement compass. You can find a debug exe for that here: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/view ... 7&t=406257 . If you don't mind using that, it could help us figure out what's going on that's blowing parts of the game away. If you use it, and see the issue, just take a screenshot and send it to 2by3@2by3games.com. So far no one that reported the move compass issue has replied with a screenshot, but then it's only been reported by a few people.

Joel,
I only played a few turns, but was in game for a couple of hours.
If I use this EXE, it won't slow my game down substantially (10% is okay, but I don't want to play at a crawl). I will kick off my next game in a few days.
Thanks!

All the debug version does is add some text to the top left of the screen. It shouldn't slow you up at all.

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
As best I recall all UI features were operating correctly, but for no trees drawn. I have a few mods installed, but the only for the map does something with I think thickening national boarders.
If it happens again, I will also mouse over forest near Leningrad to see if it is just a rendering glitch or the renderer is being told that there are no trees which should be drawn.

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
I've passed your info along to Pavel. Not sure if the debug exe is going to tell him anything about your situation. Would be good to know if the rollover still correctly identified the woods hexes. Sounds like something is getting impacted over time when playing that is causing various symptoms. At least I'm glad it is recoverable from a save as soon as you notice the issue. Thanks for the report.

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
There is only one render glitch that has been in the game since release.
I forget what you call the option, but the one that colors enemy map hexes brownish. I always play with this one on. Some combination of things (it is not the flipping during the AI's turn that causes this) makes this turn off. But it is simply refreshed by re-selecting the option.
And another UI inconsistency. All child windows are closed via ESC, but for display preferences and game options in game. ESC simply causes the child window to lose focus. To close these in game, you must click on the close window control. It is but a minor inconsistency (like above) ... so minor I did not think it even worth your programming time to report.
A fantastic game, Joel. I am in Ostfront heaven alternating now between this and Graviteam's MIUS Front.

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
Screenshot using the DEBUG.exe when the movement path froze when playing human v a.i 1941 campaign , this was from playing turn 20 to when this appeared on turn 25 after approx 2 hrs .
Game version is 1.04.01 although i have had this issue since probably two versions ago , can’t remember exactly unfortunately on ver number.
Just for you Joel , i hope this helps find what is causing the issue

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
The path being -1 indicates it's not expecting the unit to be able to move. Were you able to move the unit?

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
As the screen was not showing any way to move the unit i.e no path or highlighted hexes i did not move it in this instance, i also was more taken up with getting a screenshot for you from the DEBUG.exe version.
I could not move any other unit either not just the one that is shown on the screenshot , it resembles the situation that if you have rail movement on and the unit is not in a rail hex it won’t show any movement and the unit itself can’t be moved.
As per other people who have had the same issue, i save and reload and i can then move units again.
I hope this explanation can move things on some.

Thanks for the info. Another question for you:
Do you remember when it exactly it happened? After some phase ai/supply, air or in the middle of turn? If the latter, was there any specific action when path stopped working? Or was the move compass missing from the start of your turn?

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
Joel,
I finished up my MIUS tac battle, and start a new WITE2 scenario. I would say 15hrs and I have not had any issues with the game loaded non-stop for up to 4 hours.
I did see what I believe I have reported to you before: when display depots, the numbers on the depots 1-4 display green if they are above the midline of the screen and red if below. I can move the map up and down, and they will flip color. I recall that we discussed this maybe over a year ago. (again this is not anything, but a matter of appearance)
If I loose my trees: I will check if the map engine believes there are trees or not; and I will highlight a unit and see if the move path displays for it.
Thanks!

It was at the start of the ground phase once the air phase had completed ,i had not moved any other unit and no move compass there just as has happened to me in the past. Thanks for the info. Another question for you:

I have included screenshot after saving and restarting with the same unit highlighted which shows the movement compass and the highlighted movement available to the unit as per normal

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
Okay, Joel, I have some trade for you.
I just ran the AI's (Soviet) turn.
I turned off air groups as I wanted to see the ground situation and take some screens for a friend who has been following the fight, and before hitting F11, I hit the key to turn off depot display (I got it mapped on my gaming keyboard). And all the foliage disappeared.
This bug is not the same as your pathing bug as I ran the air turn so that I could try to draw a path; no problem.
I have three screen shots for you.
NOTE: I was in the game for about 5 hours and played as many turns.
(1) The instant the trees disappeared --- I knew it, PC gaming is the true cause of global warming!
(2) The game simulation engine knows the HEX has trees even though the renderer didn't draw them.
(3) I ran through the air phase. No trouble drawing a movement path.

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
Joel,
One further detail, I reloaded my save of the air phase from the game's menu which corrected the problem, and did not shut down the game. Thus, it would appear that the corruption is in the simulation's data structures, and not the process address space as a whole.

Re: 1.04.01: All foliage dissappears
To add to my earlier post the movement bug happened once more playing from my game turn 25 on to turn 28 when it struck .Screenshot using the DEBUG.exe when the movement path froze when playing human v a.i 1941 campaign , this was from playing turn 20 to when this appeared on turn 25 after approx 2 hrs .
Game version is 1.04.01 although i have had this issue since probably two versions ago , can’t remember exactly unfortunately on ver number.
Just for you Joel , i hope this helps find what is causing the issue
This time it was during the movement phase having moved several units before all of a sudden i found the move compass and path not there .
I was able to move the units but obviously no idea on how many M.P left as normally shown by the move compass and path.
I did screenshot it but it but incorrectly as it was not in my screenshot folder.
Looking at the DEBUG.exe window i saw that the only difference from my original post was that the path length and path drawn lines both read 0.
I hope this helps in tracking down what’s happening.
