Troop Transport

Post by keithtrevis »

Hi, I hope this is a suitable spot for this question... I don't really understand why I'm having issues getting AUS, IND and Dutch troops to board transport TF with available APs. Given I can get the US troops to board transports I think I have a passable grasp of the mechanics but I have a 2 x TF cruising up and down the AUS coast looking for units that they can load. And I'm finding none. India is pretty much the same. Any suggestions as to what I might be missing? Many thanks!

Are the LCU's restricted. Are your TF'S transport or Amphibious. Are the troops in combat or strategic mode?....GP

My first thought is that the units you are trying to load might be restricted and cannot load on ships. My second thought is that the units are not in the Strategic Move mode required for Transport TF. If you are trying to load an amphibious TF the troops need to be in combat mode. Many of the Australian, Dutch and Indian troops are restricted and need to be paid for in PP to make them able to load on ships.

You are probably trying to embark restricted HQ units.

Their HQ usually has [R] after the HQ name. If HQ name is yellow, you can change it to unrestricted HQ by clicking it and selecting one HQ that does not have [R].

If unit HQ name is in white, it is permanently restricted and cannot be embarked.

Another thing is, to embark unit to Transport TF, it has to be in Strategic movement mode.

To embark on Amphibious TF, unit has to be in Combat movement mode.

Ground units can only be loaded onto ships if they do not belong to a restricted HQ. If they are not restricted then the following applies.

For transport TF the unit must be in strategic mode.
For amphibious TF the unit must be in combat mode.
The TF should have more than the required load capacity of the unit(s) being loaded otherwise you get partial loads. (some of the unit is left behind). This is particularly important for Amphibious TF which are usually going into combat and therefore requires supply. Recommended close to a third more capacity than that stated on the unit's info screen.
Although amphibios TF are used for invasions they should also be used when sending troops to a dot or level 1 base. If you use a transport TF they will take a very long time to unload as they canot dock.

And in case you decide to use transport subs to move troops:
- the only troops that can board the sub in Combat mode are paratroops! They are ready to fight when they get to destination so they are good to take unoccupied bases. They could fight a battle but are unlikely to have enough supply for more than one small clash.

- all other troops boarding a transport sub must be in Move mode. They could be landed on hostile shores but would not be ready to fight until next turn. You could move Air Support squads to a friendly base this way, and avoid enemy air or surface interception.
