Submarine Target Acquisition - No FoW

Post by Knightpawn »

I noticed that my submarines are able to shoot torpedoes against targets that they have not detected with their sensors. Is this a feature or a bug? Does it apply to submarines only or to other platforms as well?

I have also noticed that the "Unit message log" of submarines remains empty despite an enemy unit is shown to have been detected by their sonar. Should it not log something under the "Sensory and Contracts" tab?

For different behavior where the dub doesn't have constant information sharing try playing with realistic sub comms. That way the sub will not get contact updates unless it's a comms depth so pre-existing contacts will degrade and new contacts will no appear unless detected by the sub individually.

Realistic sub comms was implemented just for this reason.

You mean like this?

Looks like pretty good FoW to me. It basically only IDs it as a large surface warship. Now if realistic sub comms was on, you would not get that report until the sub established comms on the net.

There's also the unit's message lot which shows the contact.

Exactly. I came across a similar detection instance that it was not log as in the second picture. I dont have the save available unfortunately.

I managed to reproduce it. Check the US submarine in the Cuban Strait

I dropped the contact and waited a minute and the blue sub reacquired it and it showed in the message log as it should. Somewhere down the line you cleared the units messages. Because the original message was in the full log.

Very strange. Because I have never cleared contacts (knowingly at least because I don't see any reason to).

I will check for other instances and report black. Thanks for your time to review this..

I've tried reproducing it by clearing the contact and letting the game reacquire from multiple angles and distances and the initial detection is listed every time. I also tried a completely contrived scenario with just a sub and a ship. Ran it six times and the contact is listed every time. The only way I can reproduce your screenshot is clearing messages. The only thing I haven't tried is saving and reloading.
