Guidelines on when to repair ships

Post by DKF12 »

Full Campaign
Allies vs AI
12/22/1943

The island hopping has begun and I dealing with ship repairs. After every sortie the TF comes back needing repairs even if not hit by enemy attack. CV’s,CVL’s,CVE’s seem to be particularly prone to breaking. Do you repair all damage each time or only major damage? What are best practices for ship repair
As always thanks

Anytime that the paint is even discoloured, the ships should be repaired.

Always repair fully.

You cannot do much about normal wear and tear, but ships should always be 100% functional at start of the mission.

I agree. One point of system damage can be the difference between a fire or flooding being contained or running away and sinking the ship.

If it is a ship sitting in port and I can take it offline to fix that one pesky point I will. If it is a combat ship in a situation I need it, I may let the damage get up to 20% before I find a port for necessary repairs.

It completely depends on the situation. Best practice is to repair ships as often as you can so they are ready for use.

Bottom line, keep your ships repaired all of the time. You never know when you will need full speed and any damage could be a problem....GP

It depends upon the type of damage and the amount of damage. It also depends upon where the ship is located and where any help to repair the ship is located. Most definitely, do not repair critically needed ships within range of enemy land based air, even quick carrier task forces can be a problem. Nor do upgrades near the enemy unless it is just a one day upgrade. That also depends upon what a player has to defend the base as well. So from that, it is not easy to specify set numbers. But if the ship is in danger of sinking where there is a choice to scuttle the ship, I would suggest repairing that ship before it goes out on operations.

It depends on the situation. If you're playing a high tempo game, you'll even skip some upgrades. Your ships can manage several SYS and even some FLOT and ENG damage. The key is maintaining a minimum speed for the TF. If a vessel starts slowing down the TF, then put it in port. If a turret is missing, then maybe put it in port, or if the situation is desperate enough, keep using it like the Houston in real life. Obviously, CVs that can no longer fly aircraft need to go back to the yard.
