[1706] Overlofting (for lack of better term)

Post by Knightpawn »

I have notice that quite often AMRAAMs (maybe other missiles too but i am currently playing more with western systems) tend to over-loft, i.e. their rate of decent from 45+K or so is not sufficient to hit their target and as a result they overfly by a wide margin. I guess this is not particular to the recent 1706 but rather an upshot of the new missile mechanics implemented some months ago.

You can tell me this is WAD and I will have to accept that. I am just noticing the target is flying straight ahead into the missiles path, the missiles radar is on and the missile fails to decent as I would expect too.

In the attached see a missile closing to a target in the Norwegian Sea in the shade cap area

Could it be that is jammed and without target?

As a favor: In the same file, if you just run double flame, do you get periodic stops (lasting quite some some time) at 1m intervals, then starts run again, then stops, then runs etc?

Yes, also happening here.

Probably related with missions with too many targets on the WP side.

I played that one a couple years ago and remember there being 100 or so AShMs and SAMs in the air at one time in the opening of the scenario. On single flame it was a very noticeable pause but on double you see that pause. I see the same thing in other missile-intensive scenarios with a lot of SAMs in the air. I have always just written it off as the price for trying to use double flame in complex scenarios.

I see 4 missions with 196, 137, 74 and 42 targets.

Dimitris commented several times that this was too much for CMO engine.

I have a theory, and I believe I got it right! If one removes the two no nav zones (for NATO and WP) in the editor, the acceleration runs very decently. What is interesting is that, if the no nav zones are present the periodic stops happen to all acceleration levels! i will create a separate report for this
