Rallying units and turning weapons on/off??

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Rallying units and turning weapons on/off??

Post by Warmskin »

Is there a way to automatically rally all units at the *beginning* of the turn? It is a bit tedious to hit 'n' and 'r' keys for *all* units every time a new turn begins. Also, when I turn a tank's main gun off (75 mm whatever) to save the big gun for *later* in the turn, when I go back to turn it on again to use it, it always shows '0' shots left. I have to wait to the next turn to use it. Is this a bug? Thanks much IA.

With the "auto rally" function on all units should attemt to rally on their own.

Yes, but I do use the auto-rally function, but when done, there are still plenty of units that can have their suppression reduced 'manually'. The auto-rally doesn't seem to see all units...

Warmskin:
There is currently no way to auto-rally all of your troops at the start of each turn. The rationale is because many rally attempts are worth being left undone until a truly crucial time during the turn. There may also be software issues involved (back in the old days there weren't as many units to rally). The micro-managed hands-on unit-by-unit rally method used during a turn can get tedious, I agree. But usually I am willing to suffer a little tedium to make sure that I only attempt rallies at the start of the turn in those situations where I feel compelled to attempt to take personal command.

Would it be nice to have an optional Auto-Rally button for use at the start of each turn? Probably. Is it possible to create and incorporate such a button somewhere in the Player Preferences screen? I don't know.

The reason your main gun is reduced to 0 shots is because as you fire secondary weapons during a turn, the number of shots remaining for the main gun (since it is in a higher-priority position than your secondary weapons) is reduced as well. The primary reasons for not firing your main weapon are: 1) to conserve ammo; and 2) because the main gun would prove to be less effective against the target than secondary weapons, which might not get to fire if the main weapon fires (due to experience checks made by the crew).

A third reason for not firing the main weapon is not to run the risk of a weapon breakdown, when firing it it's not strictly necessary.

Warmskin:
remember there's also the option to fire a single weapon instead of the whole set. (but the result is still a progressive reduction of the other weapons' shots available during the turn).
