Ammo resupply

Post by Eagle-Talon »

Please help. When I try to resupply my tanks with ammo after all main gun ammo is shot off nothing happens no ammo is transfered from the resup trucks or ammo dumps, however if I resupply before all main gun ammo is expended, then the resupply will take place.
Thanks for your help.

E-T, I don't know what's wrong - they should resupply with no or low ammo. I just made a scenario where a bunch of tanks start out with zero ammo and have to get resupplied from ammo trucks. It is slow, but they do get stocked up.

To re-supply from an ammo-dump, just park in a hex next to it. And wait. I assume this is the procedure, as I've only resupplied from ammo trucks, not dumps.

Urquhart, Don,
Thanks for your reply, on about 3 occasions 1 or 2 of my tanks in a long campaign have run out of HE & AP ammo. On each occasion I withdraw my tanks to hexes next to my ammo trucks, after 5 turns no ammo had been transfered over, I know it is a slow process but I have resupplied tanks with partial loads before but I dont know what has gone wrong here.
Thanks Eagle-Talon

It's a bug... AP is loaded to units only in the same hex.

Actually ammo is reloaded in the order HE first the AP, I have not tried in the same hex but in the ajacent hex this is how it happens. I keep running my M10 out of all ammo and have to wait until the HE is loaded before I start getting AP. It would be nice to be able to indicate which load to start with.

Given the Ammo trucks are Magic Hats of unlimted supplies of every ammo, There are forests to replant before we worry to much about the trees!

I will double check in v5, but I am pretty certain its like 4.5 and HE gets loaded firest to the units max, then AP. I find keeping ammo trucks on te reverse slopes of hills I crest out of site but adjacent to the fireres works the best. Wait until the units Winchester and it better be a long scenario to reload from scratch!

Actually I think that with ammo trucks you have to be in the same hex. With ammo dumps you can be in the hex next to it.

Ammo trucks always work for me when I park things in the same hes.

Hello.

I used ammo trucks for my dedicated artillery never going to zero shells (mortars) and it Really works in the adyacent hexes. Ammo dumps, ummh, never buyed because they aren't movile and are perfect targets for air strikes and enemy arty.
I deploy the loaders next to the units I want to be firing all the battle. Because If they go to zero ammo, they take loooooooooooooooooong time to reload. :D

Thanks and Saludos. :D

FrankyVas: No it's the other way around, the depot is the one that has resupply in the same hex.

Not having the manual to hand I can't be sure but:

Resupply vehicles can resupply units in the same hex or adjacent - possibly more resupply vehicles increases resupply rate.

IIRC an ammo dump resupplies units adacent and probably in the same hex(can you be in the same hex as an ammo dump - haven't tried it) but the normal resupply rate is higher than from a ammo vehicle (twice the rate?).

Howdy all

I did largish amount of ammo truck testing last summer. Of course the spwaw version back then was something like 2.xx ;) So things may have changed. You can find the original thread via search function.

Basically the reload speed from ammo truck to guns was 4 rounds/turn or less. In many cases it was just HE at first but some AT-gun types got 3HE+1AP/turn. And when the gun has received it's full HE load then the reaload type changes to 4AP or 3AP+1APCR, if applicable.

Ammo dumps doubled the reload rate, and if you have the unit surrounded by several ammo carriers they all add up..I did test with 6 trucks loading one 88 and it got a total of 12 rounds/turn.

Hope this helps.
