You know what is embarrassing.

When you keep reading how much of a pushover the AI is yet you get your ass kick by it on a daily basis!

The good news is that I am getting better!

Hey, once I get good I will long for these days right? That or I will be playing year-long PBEM games[X(]!

The gest of the AI is it does VERY well if you dont do Things to break it. Like take the 2nd Marine Division in December 41 and sail to Kwajelin. Or as the Japanese make a ton of unsupportable attacks on ports deep in allied territory cause you know game wise he has no resources.

No Army commander would agree to take his troops on an invasion of an enemy base with out air cover and naval support.
Favoritism is alive and well here.

Depends on what you mean by very well and what you mean by "break it".

Example of this very good AI:

Sending TF after TF around Singapore which is still in Allied hands and getting bombed the living daylight out of it (the TFs).

Apparently, I broke the the AI here by not surrendering Singapore as historical Percival did. Great AI!

I know this little TFs which are sent to Singapore or around it to the western side of Malaysia. They usually get attacked by torpbombers from Singapore.

Hi,
just running to Bataan and surrendering all of the Phillipines within the first 10 days is hardly what I would call 'quite good'. Really I've taken almost all of Luzon without a fight.
And no I've no idea where I broke the AI with unhistorical first turn moves.

AI fixes in the next patch

Post by siRkid »

1. The artificial intelligence was needlessly sending TF around Singapore when the Allied player still had strong air units there. FIXED.

2. The artificial intelligence was not reacting to early Allied aggressive move. Example Allies taking Iwo early in the game. FIXED.

3. Some continuous supply task forces located at San Francisco were disbanding when the player did not order so. FIXED.

4. Air combat and submarine task forces were sometimes avoiding shallow water, when not needed. FIXED.

5. The artificial intelligence was basing ships at forward bases that had poor air cover when it did not need to so do. FIXED.

O great! Now you have done it! Playing against the AI made me feel like I was a half decent commander, especialy after the starting disaster of one of my PBEM game (I lost the Lex and Enterprise in the first week!!). [;)]

LOL I went in some some friends and got plywood. It was a major effort just to get three sheets. I then bought a drill and some screws to attach the wood. I found out that that I needed plastic anchors so I when back to the hardware sore and stood in line for an hour only yo find out there are no anchors left anywhere. So now I can't put up the plywood.

Don't use screws and plastic anchors. The fasteners will come right out in hurricane force winds. Use 5/16" or 1/2" lag bolts with 2 1/2" lead anchors, if you can. If you can't, use 5/16" Tapcons, 3" long. I prefer hexheads since they can be installed quicker and easier using a ratchet or drill attachment. In both cases use 2" zinc washers.

I know this little TFs which are sent to Singapore or around it to the western side of Malaysia. They usually get attacked by torpbombers from Singapore.

The AI seems to insist on supporting and supplying it's attack on Singapore by sending
TF's to the hex just north of the City on the WESTERN side of the penninsula. I must
have sunk at least 50, and the stupid thing just won't "learn". Evidently it doesn't "get"
the concept of landing supply farther north and "drawing" it down Malaya. Maybe it
didn't read the rules.

I try not to get outside of historical use on my side so the game stays interesting...,
but the silly AI doesn't even attack the Singapore airbases anymore. It's pounding
the Maldives (empty) and a number of other "vacant" targets plus some Dutch bases
in Sumatra. But it ignores the source of most of it's difficulty.

That "bombing the empty base for 10months straight is a little goofy".

Heh. In my first game I had Rangoon built up into a massive air base. I parked all the British heavy surface assets at Rangoon in a single Surface Combat TF. Every once in a while I'd run it down the coast at full speed to that base and one just farther north (I don't remember the names). I could run down, hit them at night, and run back under Rangoon's CAP before the AI could launch air strikes. I was getting away with this for three weeks straight until I just abandoned the game.

Sounds like the upcoming AI fix should stop this behavior, though. At least in this particular case.

So is Frances going to inspire you to put typhoons into the weather system for WiTP? [:D] Just kidding. It would only start more angry threads about how they should work.

If it makes you feel better I used to live in Florida and it has been my experience that hurricanes stay away from Disney property. You should be OK in Orlando.

Thanks for the fixes to the AI. The support of Matrix is unmatched in my experience as a gamer and it is greatly apprecated.

I thought if it couldn't be fixed with duct tape, it couldn't be fixed at all. Of course I suppose that is all gone, too....

My last Delta Airlines flight was on a plane where almost the entire passenger compartment was made of seats whose armrests were held together with duct tape.

Will there also be changes to the ai sending aks to ports in enemy territory. The singapore problem seems to be caused by aks passing through enemy air while, so I wasn't sure if the same fix would work for aks who are headed for ports that are inside enemy air cover. By the way, I noticed during one particular game that when I switched sides and looked at the enemy's moves several of these ships were actually on missions to pick up and evacuate troops; I could kill one fleet and the ai would simply send another - I wish I had a a save of that, but this was before I knew y'all needed them, so I erased it.

ps. use duct tape. we don't know much about hurricanes in east texas, but we do know that duct tape can fix damn near anything. you don't even want to know what i've used duct tape for . . . by the way, i'm an funeral director/embalmer. [:D]
