A feature I would like
It would be nice if Matrix included a battle simulator with the game. That way for those of us who will buy the game but still want to play the board game with our friends, we could use the battle calculator to fight our board game battles.
It would be an option in the main menu. To fight the battle we input the info and let the battle calculator roll the dice, determine casualties, moral loss, proportional casualties, pursuit losses, guard commitment, leader casualties, etc.. I made a simple one for myself using MS Excel. It made fighing battles in the board game faster.
This shouldn't be that much more work for matrix since you have already written most the code for calculating battles. If you think it might delay the release you could just offer as a patch later.
It's and idea.

I think Marhall said this was already going to be in the game.

This is correct!
Already there. We call this our external combat resolution option. This was done to allow the miniatures community to export a battle from our game and fight it out then load the results back to our game.
Thank you

I think Hoche was a missunderstood here, he asked about a battle calculator to help with his EiA board version.

RE: A feature I would like
I think what he wants is this.
He is playing the board game with counters and map.
He wants to know if he can input his battles into the game (computer) and resolve with the computer instead of having to do it on paper.

Even though it appears to not be what the thread author was looking for, thanks again for this feature Marhall. It should lead to some interesting campaigns at my miniature club.

So what you wrote in this thread:
tm.asp?m=629029
is no longer true?
Check first page of thrad half way down. You (Mr Ellis) posted a file format describing external combat resolution...
Who is missunderstanding who here?
24 hours in a day, 24 beers in a case. Coincidence? I think not.
RE: A feature I would like
What Marshall wrote about was the ability to fight battles and input the result into the computer game NOT use this program as a glorified Excel spreadsheet.

RE: A feature I would like
Well glorified Excel spreadsheet or no I think it would be a nice feature, ESPECIALLY for GMs (who can now say "I will Gm but I need pizza, beer, AND THE EIA COMPUTER GAME so I can figure results faster"
). It will also help those of us who hate Excel since they always link the wrong cell into a function and get weird results but don't realize it until after the whole 1000 cell sheet is set up and the 1st number entered :b But only if it is easily accomplished, I like many others, would rather see a release of the game (yes, yes, non-bugified) and then a patch later to add the feature (or if you believe in creative marketing, making the resolution engine a free download to get EiA players to the site where they will see the awesome computer version and buy it in caseloads
).

RE: A feature I would like
I think I got this one right???
The external combat resolution is still in the game today!
What I believe is being asked for here is an external game that would use the PC version for combat resolution. Almost a direct opposite of external combat???
Probably won't make release 1 BUT I REALLY like this idea as an add on ...
Thank you

This reminds me, maybe I should dust off that old EiA simulator I started coding a few months back. Hopefully I'll get more time soon.

It's a mix of english and swedish words so I guess it was made by a swede...

RE: A feature I would like
Why whould someone want a battle simulator for the board game when we will be able to play the-hope to be[;)]-perfect computer version of it by Matrix?[&o]
RE: A feature I would like
If you really wanted a "glorified excel spreadsheet' just create one, super easy. All you want is something to input guys, calc morale, etc, etc, right? Take less than a day to code all of that even in a windows environment. This is something that can easily be done in VB, or MFC, or even someting like XWindows. Or you can just do it in Excel.
RE: A feature I would like
I think the question is why reinvent the wheel if a program already exists that can work for those calculations. Also, who better to release a copy of that program than the one who is building it for the PC game? Especially if the people who want this program don't believe that they have the capability to do the programing in either windows or excel.
