Come on, MM, the auto deploy button is very, very tempting... Before you use it the first time. Once you realise that it deploys your units by tossing them high up into the air and letting them stay where they land, then it rapidly loses it's appeal.[:D]

This is part of the reason why I like small scenarios: units don't take so long to deploy.

Units are sometimes not deployed when using the auto deploy feature.

That's still true? I hadn't seen it with SPWaW, but was familiar with it from earlier SP's...

I haven't tested it in v8+ ... just assumed the bug still remained.

Well, as I said, I haven't seen it yet. But as Major Mess said, just don't use the Auto Deploy button.

Heck tonedog I dont auto deploy my units ever. And I play some large battles which means a lot of deploying. My reason is I dont like the hap hazard way the AI deploys. But during moving all these units I still manage to lose some small units. This is due mostly to my eye sight and the color of terrain and unit blending in to it so well. So every 5th turn or so I start with the AO and hit next key all the way thru my roster. This way if stragglers or becoming apparent I will find them before they are lost for ever and no one sees them again. [:D][:D]

Greetings...

Hmm... Odd.. I almost ALWAYS play the huger scenarios, 20k each side, and well, I can honestly say that I've never lost any unit on the map that is....

I think part of the problem may be in force selection -

When you buy your forces (in a game where you CAN buy forces) buy them in the order you will move them - Not in the "Sexy" Order. Most people buy Tanks first, infantry last with a whole bunch of other combinations tossed in between, and end up having to look around for the right unit to move.

Try this instead -

First buy leg recce, then vehicle recce, depending on the scenario - FO's, infantry, tanks, support units, Artillary. THEN buy units which you can add to other formations, such as passengers for your tanks, infantry AT, MG's, transports, AAA, etc.

Most of the time, you will usually want to move leg units up first to scout out and get into spotting positions BEFORE you bring up the big guns. Organizing yourself in this manner relieves you of the "Hunt and Peck" style of playing, and you usually only have to go through the entire list using N once.

You might also try playing the way the computer AI plays - moving each unit only a single hex, advancing through the list many times, but again, if you purchased your forces in the order that you want to move them, this again becomes very efficient.

Personally, I like infantry battles, with very little armor - Most of my games, even the 20k games I play, I rarely have more than 15 tanks in my entire force.

Sometimes when the game throws the units in the air, they land in trees, or just never land so what goes up may not come down. LOL I actually used to use the auto deploy all the time until one of my units of King Tigers ended up behind enemy lines right in the middle of a company of US engineers. Never heard from them again. Dont ever use it now.
