SPWAW on Windows XP

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

SPWAW on Windows XP

Post by TheZel66 »

has anyone tried SPWAW on a Windows XP OS, both Home Edition and/or Professional editions, to see if everything works.

I would like to upgrade, but it all depends on whether or not SPWAW works on XP.

Thanks

WIN XP is based on WIN 2000 (and NT) I have played several games on it and the only problem is that it sahres the Mega-Campaign problem that WIN 2k/NT has that you can;t play teh Mega-Campaign with COmmand and Control ON, it works fine with C2 off. It appears a windows/compiler problem and we have no way to fix it unfortunately.

Other than that I have had XP home edition up and running nearly a week now and it has been a MAJOR stability improvement of ME/98SE. My take on upgrade, if you are the only PC user and aren't connected to a network of any kind, then WIN 98SE is probably fine. ME adds a lot of network configuration automation, but stability can suffer over WIN 98SE on some configurations.

If you have several people using the same computer, have a home network, or want a minimum of hassles with configuration, then think about upgrading to XP home edition. You only need the Professional edition if you want to host a website, need OS level encryption of your files, or want server multiple clients on a small network with different permission requirements.

If 99$ is not a huge crimp in teh budget, then there are alot of good free bundles you can get with it (I got a 12xW-8xRW-32XR CD-RW and 50 disks plus a 128MB memory chip and the full suite of Norton Utility products (System works and Internet Security for 119$ all together) 300$+ worth of stuff.

Wiseman - Staples, you have to pay for everything up front, but I have had good fast rebate turnaround from them.

They have 4 bundles, a digital camera, PDA, and home network - all 150$ or so worth of stuff, all free after rebate. Other "office Supperstores" have similar offers, so I'd check Office Depot and Office max as well, to compare the offers.
