factories

Post by lkendter »

I realize some units only are of worth for some nations. Air groups are a good example, as they are only important to WA and Japan.

What I haven't figured out is why any nation would build another factory. Has anyone ever found a reason to build one?

I reckon the WA could consider building one in the US. I would not do so myself though.

Factories are probably best built when one is going for an AV as axis.

I occassionally build a factory or two for Germany at the beginning of the game - AV or no. The Germans usually have the resources to run it and it can be helpful in the midgame when the Allies are picking up steam. The WA could also do this - but I usually don't as I am afraid Britain will be invaded and want to use every PP possible.

I almost always build a factory in Canada, but the fact I'm Canadian may have something to do with that. If you start building it in spring 40 it will cost you 6 production points and be built in in Summer 41 and start producing in Fall 41. In 95% of the games I play the US doesn't enter the war until Winter 43 (what a surprise) and Allied factories don't run out of resources until about Fall 43 or so. Between Fall 41 and Summer 43 that lone Canadian factory will generate 24 production points. The WA net gain is therefore about 18 production. Of course if the Axis are going for the AV you lose that production at a critical time. Don't forget the factory will also cost you 2 pop in your Summer 41 turn, perhaps costing you a crucial fighter or infantry at an important time.

nice way of looking at it harrybanana, I guess I never was so analytical about it.

if I'm doing a double team against the russians, I like to build a factory in japan, because eventually the japanese will have too many resources and not enough factories. of course the timing is important so not to waste resources too early that should be spent on supply.

How did you pull that one off? It seems like I am always hurting for resources as Japan. Even after taking out all of asian Russia.

an attack deep into russia can net you like 10-12 resources and then with the DEI you can get 10 additional resources, which puts you well over 30. I don't recall the exact number of factories, but with a fixed multipler of 3, I think I recall 10 factories (30 pp initial capability).

Well I am lost on this reply.
Can we get more details on how Russia can use them, as opposed to the comments about smog.
I thought fog of war was the game option, not smog of war.
