Tactics for crossing the Straits of Johore

Post by ruffels »

Hi All
It is June 43 and I as the Allies am closing in on Singapore with about 5 Indian and British Divisions as well as Tanks and 3 artillery Units ( I have some 70,000 troops. I think there are about 13,000 Japanese there according to recon). I intend to rest my boys before assaulting across the Strait but I'm wondering if anyone has advice for me. I havn't had any horrible events occur crossing rivers in the face of the enemy yet as some have reported and I would like to avoid extreme casualties if I can. So if you have any experiences or thoughts I would appreciate it.
Thanks!

Use the follow button and if you have v1.6 or higher things should be roughly OK (ie 90% of your troops crossing the same day). Another possibility is to land from the sea in Singapore as the big Allied guns that protect it are gone.

I agree. Use the sea assult. You wont take the river disruption.

Assuming that you are patched to 1.70: select whichever artillery unit has the most fatigue. Order it to move to Singapore. In that same unit's information screen, click "Set all to follow". This should insure that all units arrive in Singapore simultaneously, and that you only have to do one forced shock attack.

In my experience, artillery units are the fastest moving in the game. Everytime I give multiple hex movement orders to stacks that include artillery, infantry and armor they always arrive at their destination in that order.

That's weird. I get the opposite results.

Artillery units are slowest at equal FAT but if your troops are moving after a battle, ART units will have fatigue close to 0 (bombardment doesn't rise fatigue much), while INF fatigue may be high and then they will be slowest.

Well, then his armor must really be getting beat up, as he says it is arriving last.

Fatigue on the units is at the minimum of 5 when I give them the movement order. Mind you, this is long distance, four or more hexes to the destination. That may be a factor.

*hands rtrapasso an icepack* Sorry, didn't mean to hit you quite that low. [:D]
