limited substitution

Post by Redan »

Almost certainly I will purchase this game SOON. I wonder if it is possible to limit substitution of players? And if that would have any effect on play? In real life, if only 2 or three players could be substituted per change of possession, there might be fewer 350 pound linemen.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean but substitutions are made in game in coach mode if your team is human controlled

What I mean is, once upon a time football players played both offense and defense because you were limited by the number of substitutions you could make, as in soccer or baseball. Sammy Baugh was QB and Safety for the Washington Redskins AND Punter. I'm asking if the players on whatever roster the game has can play both offense and defense?

When you set up a depth chart for any formation, be it offenseive or defensive and special teams, you appear to be able to place any player in any position. (for example I just placed a quarterback in a defensive line position in a defensive depth chart. I did not run a game like this, but would assume that as long as the team is set for human control and as long as the QB is in that slot in the formations depth chart, and in the Offensve formations depth chart as QB he would be going both ways. I think you would have to set up the depth chart for every formation your team uses. If the team is computer controlled these substitutions might be over ridden, but if it is human controlled, this does not appear to be the case.

Deltadog is right. You can put any player in any position using the depth chart. If you want #23 to be a defensive back, the quarterback and the punter, then you just assign him to those positions in the depth chart for the defensive, offensive and punting formations.

Magnificent! Thanks d-dog and MjH!

I wonder, for those Arena Fans out there, is it possible to set players in certain positions on Offense and Defense and if an Injury occurs for that starter if he is on Offense, will the game indicate that he is no longer avialable to play on the Defensive Postion you assigned him too aswell?

And what about Depth? If you have say a WR playing both WR on Offense and DB on Defense, and he is injured or taken out of play, can you have a backup or 2nd String guy play the same positions as the Starter did?

I'll do my best to answer to the best of my knowledge. Of the 8 players, 6 play both ways. On offense you have the QB and an OS (offensive specialist), on defense you have two DS (defensive specialist), these players only play one way. Of the 6 that play both ways, 3 are OL/DL, the FB usually plays the Mack LB, one receiver plays the Jack LB and the other receiver plays DB. The substitution rule is that if a player is replaced for any reason he may not return to the game for the remainder of the quarter. As a rule you replace that player with another of the same offensive and defensive position capabilities/combinations.

I'm not sure if MaxFB can copy that exactly, but perhaps it can reproduce something similar. A hyrbid type Ironman system.

but I don't think it would work well if we can't allow for a substitute to replace an Injured Starter Playing both ways. Has anyone tested if Subs can play both ways if the starter is injured?
