Player Card Changes
Ok, one guy got what he wished with regard to the player card. The player info-bio box is now on top of the ratings box. At first, I thought it might have been a good change too. But now I feel differently.
Why?
In the beginning of this new player card the ratings box "extended" farther than the bio box making it look out of balance. Now "with regard to non-pitchers" they are both the same width but the stacked info-bio box is taller than the ratings box. So again, we have an out of balance situation.
Personally, I would have preferred that the ratings box be above the info-bio box (like it always was). However, I'm for making them the same width. The ratings should be above everything else IMO.
And BTW, I dislike all this domination of the color green. Having been around PS since almost the beginning, I'm more challenged now with this new version regarding upgrades/downgrades in the program than ever before. However, if I can "re-skin" what I don't like I'll be happy. If not, that will my problem.
I fully support Shaun and I him wish tons of sales. PS is easy to get into, yet it is still a very powerful and accurate baseball text sim.
Finally, I still sadly miss those drawn hits/outs lines. They were the "essence" of in-game Pure Sim play, and now they are regrettably gone. Sitting back and watching it auto-play with those lines being drawn was the main feature of PS that grabbed and took hold of me from all other baseball text sims.
That was Pure Sim.

RE: Player Card Changes
I like the new player card much better. It's just makes more sense to have the biographical info first.
Its tough to please everyone, but I sure wish there were more people excited about the new version. Its a bit of a bummer. The beta testers all seemed thrilled, but the public appears either a) disinterested or b) In your camp -- not liking the changes.
I feel I have stuck a great balance with PS 2007. It feels like PureSim but has made great strides in many areas. I sure hope I'm right or it may be time for some introspection.
Beach, I remember you hated the box on the field when I added that, you hated the idea of changing the direction of the text scroll when I added that, you wanted player photos then you raised issues about how the player card looked when you didn't have photos so I'm not sure if I can ever make you happy
Of course that's why I love you -- you are not afraid to drive the game in new directions. I have always valued your feedback so keep it coming.
If you do end up purchasing the game I hope you'll give the new features a chance -- especially the animated ball flight.
Thanks for all your support and support in the PureSim Community.
Regards,
Shaun

RE: Player Card Changes
I think it's one of those silent majority things, Shaun.
Beach, I'm not in the beta, so I don't know for sure, but last year the player card was just an html file. It might be possible to flip the order of the bio and the ratings by changing the order of the html code. Also the different color bars are probably just graphic files; if you don't like the color of one you can probably just swap it out with the others.

I'll boost your hopes!
I'm really looking forward to this release and have put the word out amongst my baseball simming buddies and have heard quite a few are going to be getting it. I think once it is actually released and "out there" the forum will get quite busy!
I've been a puresimmer since practically day one and can't tell you all the enjoyment I've gotten out of wasting so many hours on it!
Keep up the great work!

I'm still waiting for it Shaun. I will be purchasing as soon as it is available.

I'm excited about the new version, just tired of waiting for the release. Good to hear of a release date. [:)]
RE: Player Card Changes
There's been a lot of buzz in the forum, Shaun - its much more alive than it had been.
Also, remember that people resist change - and the ones that like the change are usually quiet about it. When my website releases changes - even ones our entire design team agrees are improvements, customer service is flooded by negative feedback, and negative usually exceeds positive by about 10-to-1 in those situations.
*However*, if you go out in chat and chat with the players, you get unanimously positive feedback.
So, 'complaints' can be a bit misleading.
(Not to minimize any of what Beach is saying - Beach, you know I value your opinions, right?)

Don't get down Shaun, sounds to me like you've done alot with PS 2007, I'm definitly excited. I also like your post over at FOFC that talked about expansion and contraction as an update!!
I think there's many more buyers than what it looks like by forum traffic. [;)]

RE: Player Card Changes
Matrix needs to get the demo out with the release. That is going to be a huge factor.
I've been playing the gold master most of today. 2007 is a huge step forward for this franchise.

RE: Player Card Changes
BTW, these are my opinions after digesting all the screen shots of the two BB text sims being released shortly:
Yes, I'm sure I can perhaps re-skin and make changes to the PS player card. Yes, I can perhaps get rid of that green and adapt my Sienna Skin to PS 2007. I actually think that I'll have a better chance at pleasing myself with PS than with the new other BB text sim releasing shortly. It will be quite a bit of work -- but I can do it, if I have enough desire.
With regard to that other BB text sim, I didn't think this until last week, but now I'm becoming more and more convinced of the following:
They have a huge problem in that their "text columns are too long for the page". All the stat information screens are simply "too long with regard width of the text". Because of this, the entire interface is very tiring and difficult on the eyes. While it is adapted from SI's great FM2006 -- it is actually a lot wider with regard to columns and text. I wish they had stuck more with FM2006's style.
Also, their in-game screens are poorly thought out (IMO). They spent the last spend 24 months or so re-programming the entire sim, but it appears to me that they threw the in-game interface together in about a month. The main "one-pitch" in-game screen is worse than their last version by a long shot (too sparse in info). However, their "pitch by pitch" screen is pretty good (believe it or not a bit crowded!).
And again (for the last time), my biggest beef with the new PS is the "animated ball flight". But, I must admit, Shaun is correct -- most of the changes he's done that I didn't care for at first I've grown to enjoy (or like them). Perhaps I'm wrong about the animated ball flight. I will admit it if I am (at least three times!).
Finally, for the average BB text sim player I think this new version of PS is over all better than his competitor's (at least from what I know about both and the screens I've seen). It should be much easier to set-up, easier on the eyes and easier to skin the way one desires. However, his competitor's last version (6.51) a was a mega achievement, as was PS2005 when adapted with my Sienna Skin!.
Remember, these are my opinions and mine alone. My wonderful wife and lovely mother could care less.

RE: Player Card Changes
Well, Shaun. My love of the game (albeit not being able to support it really - no coverage in UK apart from Channel 5 at 2 in the morning), the friendliness and offers of help from the people here, the word being out that you are passionate about the game and moreso about supporting it and the look of the game means you have my money.
First timer here...poked my head in, asked a few questions, got a great response...so the money's as good as yours.

I don't want to turn this into a vs "competitor" thread, but I understand what you are saying and I agree completely. There are a lot of neat screenshots, but some of them have WAY too much info that makes it hard on the eyes. Time will tell, but I like what Shaun's done with PS 2007. That being said, I might have 2 baseball sims on my HD this year. I still play and enjoy OOTP 6.5.

I agree. That is why I don't like to even mention the "name" that often. Markus should have learned the value of "white space" (or blank space) and the two column display. Your eyes can't follow text or numbers that far across the screen (or page). That is why newspapers, mags, and websites have multilple columns. IMO, they've made a huge mistake.
One way PS2005 had OOTP 6.5 beat was in "stat display" and I thought PS2005 old almanac feature was better too. I don't thing any of that will change with the new versions.
However, with OOTP 6.5 I got absolutely perfect (50s era) stats -- including errors, double plays, SF, and HBP.
I would never not buy both. But I'm getting to where I determined to only play one of them this go around. And BTW, I might even have three on my HD since I like 6.5 so well. But I'll still try to only play one of them. I can't keep up with the players names!

True.

I can definitly see both 6.5 and PS 2007 getting playing time. I might do a historical sim with PS, somewhere starting in the 80's.
I could be wrong, but the potential trouble I see with the new OOTP, is too much micromanaging in the game..and data that really means nothing to me. I'll reserve judgement for later.

This was my latest complaint about the new OOTP:
Anyway, not all the new screens in OOTPBM 2006 are hard to read, but some (many) are. IMO, and many in the publishing business, long rows of text/numbers are extremely difficult and tiring to read. That why they don't use them.
BTW, I also think the lastest the "pitching leaders" screen released today is flat ugly. This entire new interface appears to be aim at "bean counters" with rulers. (Again, the "interface tree" itself appears to be well done.) However, it will help a bit if we can click on a row and it becomes highlighted.
Hey, I'm a big fan of SI's Football Manager 2004/05/06 and I can tell you that while is it simuliar to this new OOTP interface it is much better and easier on the eyes. BTW, I really prefer v6.5 interface over this one. I know Markus has added tons of new and great features, but ....
These are just my opinions and I don't ask anyone to share them with me. Good luck to Markus and to SI. They've got a great sim coming out that to me just looks at bit cumbersome to read and somewhat ugly at times. I never felt this way about v5 or 6. (Except for the initial text readout on the left in v6 -- again, I thank Markus for going back to the v5 readout at the bottom).
I could be wrong about PS's animated ball flight vs the hit/out lines, but I've designed newsletters and websites and I know a bit about "publishing". And countless screens in the new OOTP are difficult and just not interesting to read. While PS's interface at times has looked a bit of a "patchwork" -- it is never been hard on the eyes or overly crowded.
I guess many take these as attacks on the designers, however they are meant to be constructive. I just want the best for both sims.
