Is this game similar to Combat Mission

A brand new campaign-based 3D tactical engine covering combat in World War II, from the developers at Koios Works. The first operation covered is the famous "Wintergewitter" or Winter Storm, a desperate attempt by Hoth's 57th Panzer Korps to break through to the encircled 6th Armee at Stalingrad and the Soviet counter-attack by 2nd Guards Army that drove them back.

That's a real FAQ, here's my take of the question (was posted on another forum)
1) it is first of all a campaign game. The 3D battle's main purpose is to resolve unit status to advance to the next battle with.

2) yes - in the 3D part it looks like CM. It is a 3D representation of tanks rolling over terrain. Like CM it uses realistic scales (unless the compressed terrain that RTSes use). How else can it look like?

3) 3D combat plays out very different, because...

3a) .. it's mostly for campaign gaming anyway, PZC's tactical battles follow a much simpler set of rules, all of them clearly layed out in the manual. The game is "snappier", more direct with big delays in movement, turning, artillery etc.

3b) it has 40+40 second turns with action and reaction phase, an entirely different artillery model and a whole host of other play details that don't show in the screenshots. So the comparision with CM, while it appear valid now, will appear less valid after you play it

3c) movement is platoon oriented with pretty decent pathfinding. Much less TacAI involved. Paths chosen by the TacAI are shown when the command is plotted to the platton leader, and you can re-plot if you don't like it. Re-plotting a path works for individual platoon members, too, as long as the command is similar to what you gave to the platoon leader

4) it allows the owner to redefine pretty much all combat parameters. Instead of bitching about T-34s not penetrating the Pz IV front, just edit it in the XML file (don't do that in PBEM, though)

5) simultaneous PBEM mode. 2 mails per turn, not 6. Trusted mode of course

That should about cover it.

As you see, don't be fooled by the fact that the screenshots look alike. These are two entirely different games.

Wow until I realized I have been counting down the days until release, I didnt notice how excited Im getting about this game!  Oh man, I hope it lives up to expectations.  There have literally been NO worthwhile wargames released in the past couple years (correct me if Im wrong - PLEASE!)  so this is really getting built up in my mind.
War, what is it good for?

The subject matter is certainly interesting to me, tho I think of the great Victory Games' Panzer Command when I see the title... [:)]

My concern also is the similarity to CM, tho the appearance hopefully is superficial. I suppose there is only so many ways to model tank to tank combat...

I would like to see some AAR's with pics- the movies are too short in any way to base a game buying decision as well as the fact the movies are kinda grainy to begin with.

I sent an AAR of the first campaign scenario for the Germans to www.wargamer.com and I expect it will show up there soon. That should also show the campaign screens as well as a rough idea of how a scenario unfolds.

If you like the campaigns in Steel Panthers and Close Combat, you should like PC.

If you don't like some of the tedious bits of CM, you should like PC.
Conflict of Heroes "Most games are like checkers or chess and some have dice and cards involved too. This game plays like checkers but you think like chess and the dice and cards can change everything in real time."
