Re: Rising Sun, Falling Skies: BTSL Bigred vs John 3rd

Yep. I own it.

It is a classic and cost me a good amount of $$$! It came out in 1971. The work is solid and pretty good. The class descriptions are solid and well done.

My preferred book covering the building of the fleet and respective classes is Jentschura's Warships of the Imperial Japanese ...

Re: Invasion Tactics

I am playing the complete campaign against the AI. It is 10/1/42.When I attack Wake Is.with 4 CV’s I loose many Wildcats to the Zero’s ,which I expected but the DB’s on airfield attack destroy very few planes on the ground. If I send in a BB and CA,CL task force the come in and tear the place up ...

John, now you know how Yamato felt when he planned out Midway and it all went in the toilet... <wry grin>

That would be Yamamoto, not the battleship! Yamato = Mountain Spirit. Yamamoto = Mountain Man

Yamamoto's plan included steps to ensure the US carriers were at PH. The first one - sub ...

Re: Rising Sun, Falling Skies: BTSL Bigred vs John 3rd

I just want to really catch a break right now. Carefully planned attacking with all the remaining carriers (big and small), moved to position, sprang the trap, and what is my reward? The AI refuses to fly my aircraft. The plan was to SEVER the Allied army on Sumatra and then destroy it. Now ...

Tenryu is a CM? I thought she was a Light Cruiser...

They are playing a modified scenario, if I remember correctly, in the original game the Tenryu could also carry mines.

Thanks for the FYI, Ranger Joe. Hey, John or BigRed - did the Tenryu start as a CL and then have an upgrade ...

Re: Rising Sun, Falling Skies: BTSL Bigred vs John 3rd

As Paul will attest, in the greater scheme of things, it isn't much but it IS something! Over my 18+ years of playing, I have sunk several Essex but never by sub. Very nice.

Nice to see some Japanese sub-action. Back in the day, I had a sub (I think it was the I-158) that took out an American ...

RE: Jan 21st, 1942

I was just wondering if the reason your troops took such heavy losses (300 squads destroyed) was due to not crossing in Combat mode. I mean - sometimes you just get a really bad roll from the dice-gods but if you were in Move mode while crossing a river... Ouch.
