Re: Armour and AP values seem to matter much less than I had thought

Thank you for your kind reply, Capn Darwin. To answer your query, the question of Armour vs AP values has cropped up at least three times before the current thread.
On July 17-18, 2026, a thread initiated by Zumwalt;
from January 22 to March 7 a long thread begun by William Betson (T-80 vs M1A1 ...

Re: Armour and AP values seem to matter much less than I had thought

Yes, this issue of WP vs NATO armour and armour piercing capabilities has been dragging itself for months with no satisfactory answer from the developers. Quo usque tandem abutere patientia nostra? We've had in the meantime several patches, but I doubt they addressed the problem.

Re: A Better Manual Could Make This Game Much More Accessible

Marek raises a host of valid points. I agree 100% with all of them. I've been complaining since January 2026, when WIS was released, about the manual. It is essentially useless, bursting full of padding, inaccuracies and questionable syntax which any 7th grade teacher would cringe at. Never mind the ...

Re: Operation Olympic

Good idea. I'll try escorting. But yes, the game uses the word "evaporated" when a unit is eliminated.

Operation Olympic

I tried a couple times this "what if" scenario, playing the Allies, but it's frustrating. Before having the land units sail to their landing beaches, I went on the air unit display and put every one of my air units, except the bombers, on "air superiority", as a precaution against the kamikaze ...

Re: CMO v1.09 Build 1859 (Public Beta)

Hello. I'm trying to download 1.09 Beta 1859. However, when I click on the link in the Matrix Games forum, I don' t get any response. What's the problem?
Usually downloading and installing updates from the MG website is straightforward, but 1852 gave me a lot of trouble, and this one just won't ...

Re: WiS: New v1.65.54 Public Beta Available!

The V.54 Data Fix thread is blocked. So, I'm writing here.
My problem is that the 7 files in that thread, which are supposed to fix 7 similarly named files of this latest update to WiS (in THIS thread), are immovable, at least to me. They download all right, but I tried everything to shift or copy ...

Re: Don't Understand This

You have my fullest backing. When I complained right after the game was published about the manual all I got was a written shrug and a not very polite one at that.
The truth is that the current WiS manual is still badly written, opaque, and incomplete, even in its second iteration.
WiS does not ...

Re: Official Update Announcement

I don't agree with the satisfaction expressed on the new manual. Just a glance at the WiS Forum entries shows that the manual is still unsatisfactory. IMHO, it needs a complete rework. To wit:
1. Get rid of ALL the padding and shift it into an annex.
2. Write the rules clearly, in proper English ...

Re: CMO v1.09 Release Candidate (Public Beta) - Build 1817

I tried unzipping with 7-zip, Winzip and Peazip, but to no avail. Sometimes, when trying with Peazip, it even asks for a password. Otherwise cryptic error messages. Nothing's wrong with my PCs; after failing with this download I did one for RTW3, smooth as silk in both machines.

Quality control.

In the last months two new games have been released by Matrix Games, Flashpoint Campaigns Cold War and War in Spain. I bought both and am certain they have outstanding potential and will become favorites. Note the future tense. They both have, however, a fatal weakness, pre-release quality control ...

Re: WiS: the manual

I just finished struggling through the 440+-page WIS Manual after a 2-day penance. Unsat! First of all, vocabulary and syntax are extremely shaky. Sentence structure is tortured and full of needless use of the passive voice. Then also, what are "devices", exactly? Personnel, weapons, equipment ...

Great. Good thinking.
However, how do you replace an original map with one of these new winter ones, particularly Operation Christiane?
Please, just in layman's terms.
Thanks.

setting up

I'm aware that everyone's raving about this game, and I would also like to. The manual and tutorials, however, are definitely C-, which prevents me from enjoying it.
Instead of spending paragraphs on fluff, for starters, be instead extremely specific on fundamentals; for example, how do you place ...
