Re: WiS: New v1.65.54 Public Beta Available!

The V.54 Data Fix thread is blocked. So, I'm writing here.
My problem is that the 7 files in that thread, which are supposed to fix 7 similarly named files of this latest update to WiS (in THIS thread), are immovable, at least to me. They download all right, but I tried everything to shift or copy ...

Re: Don't Understand This

You have my fullest backing. When I complained right after the game was published about the manual all I got was a written shrug and a not very polite one at that.
The truth is that the current WiS manual is still badly written, opaque, and incomplete, even in its second iteration.
WiS does not ...

Re: Official Update Announcement

I don't agree with the satisfaction expressed on the new manual. Just a glance at the WiS Forum entries shows that the manual is still unsatisfactory. IMHO, it needs a complete rework. To wit:
1. Get rid of ALL the padding and shift it into an annex.
2. Write the rules clearly, in proper English ...

Re: CMO v1.09 Release Candidate (Public Beta) - Build 1817

I tried unzipping with 7-zip, Winzip and Peazip, but to no avail. Sometimes, when trying with Peazip, it even asks for a password. Otherwise cryptic error messages. Nothing's wrong with my PCs; after failing with this download I did one for RTW3, smooth as silk in both machines.

Quality control.

In the last months two new games have been released by Matrix Games, Flashpoint Campaigns Cold War and War in Spain. I bought both and am certain they have outstanding potential and will become favorites. Note the future tense. They both have, however, a fatal weakness, pre-release quality control ...

Re: WiS: the manual

I just finished struggling through the 440+-page WIS Manual after a 2-day penance. Unsat! First of all, vocabulary and syntax are extremely shaky. Sentence structure is tortured and full of needless use of the passive voice. Then also, what are "devices", exactly? Personnel, weapons, equipment ...

Thank you. Aha, so Bucholz and Op Christine use the same map. I'll wait for the new version of Christine, then. Great. Grazie.

Re: 82 Winter Themed Maps

Great. Good thinking.
However, how do you replace an original map with one of these new winter ones, particularly Operation Christiane?
Please, just in layman's terms.
Thanks.

setting up

I'm aware that everyone's raving about this game, and I would also like to. The manual and tutorials, however, are definitely C-, which prevents me from enjoying it.
Instead of spending paragraphs on fluff, for starters, be instead extremely specific on fundamentals; for example, how do you place ...

Re: Windows 11 compatibility

I guess. Still, Windows 98SE and immediate successors are 15 years old now. How many people really have kept PCs still running on that stuff? At least remaster the game to Windows 8.1 or 10. Expecting an 11 machine to accept 98SE software is like trying to convert a Roman legion into an armored ...

Re: Windows 11 compatibility

I am deeply grateful to all of you guys. The game now works ok. I had to borrow a bit from one and a bit from another, because when all is said and done, no two PCs are identical. I also have a desktop running on Windows 11 24H2 with the same graphics card, and when I downloaded and installed this ...

Re: Windows 11 compatibility

Thanks. That was helpful. The sound is perfect, scrolling is much better. but still no full screen, the screen is narrower than it should be. I got this result by lowering your resolution to 1366/768 and removing the f from px and py.
At least now I can play the game again.
Thank you again.

Windows 11 compatibility

I made a fresh reinstall of the game with the two updates shown in My Page, therefore including this latest one.
No problem there, but the game - which was already clunky under Windows 10, under Windows 11 (24H2 upgrade) is clunkier still.
There are 2 problems:
1. I tried every trick I knew to get ...

Re: [v1.00.34] Ships bought from other powers cannot be rebuilt

Has this patch been posted yet? Since update .32 the game, which until then worked well, has been ruined. .33 and .34 have not fixed as expected.

It's three weeks you've been repeating that you'll fix it, but all we got was a useless update .34.
Here is my latest save.

Re: Save corruption problems persist

I totally agree. The latest patch only went halfway in solving my problems, but STILL rebuilds aren't saved. As I had already remarked, the 32 patch screwed up something that until then worked flawlessly.
