RE: Midway

<t> I'm not sure, even reading Dr. Erwin's post, what exactly HE is looking for.<br/>
<br/>
However, the idea of a- say 1 week- campaign centered around the Midway operation sounds interesting to me. <br/>
<br/>
I caveat that by saying that if you are looking for "The Battle of Midway", then as ...

RE: Midway

<t> I've been reading this thread with interest. Although I agree that WiTP:AE is not the best game to simulate this battle- too many moment-to-moment decisions impacted the battle that cannot be accurately simulated in WiTP:AE- the idea of a Midway scenario still interests me.<br/>

RE: Books about the War in the Pacific?

<t> I just finished Eagle Against the Sun and thought it was an excellent 1-volume account of the Pacific war. It will leave you hungry for more.<br/>

Costello's Pacific War is always a good choice.<br/>

RE: Petition: Stop Fog-of-War for friendly units when playing vs AI

Agree fully with the OP.&nbsp; FOW for enemy is great.&nbsp; FOW for friendly is just annoying.&nbsp; It's not really FOW...I can go in and click on the unit and get its true state.&nbsp; So really it's just a time-waster.

I prefered the Guadalcanal book over the original, but they are both excellent.

RE: Books to Recommend

<t> I'll second the following:<br/>
Costello's Pacific War- a great overview.&nbsp; It has some errors, true, but they're not show-stoppers.<br/>
Lundstrom's The First Team and The First Team and the Guadalcanal Campaign are both really good books, very detailed treatments of the air combat.&nbsp ...

RE: Multiple games saved question

Thanks for the responses.

rtrapasso, that sounds like the best idea for me, provided it won't mess up the registry or anything. I know some games have problems with multiple installs on the same computer.

I'll try it and see how it works out.

Multiple games saved question

<t> Hi all.<br/>
I am part way through a campaign game, and I'm interested in starting a new game (vs. AI) as the other side.<br/>
<br/>
Can I have both campaigns saved in the same folder, one of the 200 slots or so that are allotted for saved games, without any problems with switching between ...

RE: Unusual request re: saved game vs. computer

<t> Thanks VSWG.<br/>
&nbsp;<br/>
I was thinking something along the same lines, namely that the bulk of the game is going to be recovering those 7000 victory points and then getting ahead a bit.&nbsp; Obviously as the US, I should expect the war to start swinging my way as my reinforcements start ...

For US:<br/>

Army pts lost 1803<br/>
Ships sunk 102/ 1901 pts<br/>

Unusual request re: saved game vs. computer

<t> Hi all,<br/>
I don't post here to much, but I have an unusual request from someone who's played quite a bit; a vet's opinion would be appreciated.<br/>
<br/>
I'm playing the scenario that starts in May 42, vs. the AI as the Allies. I've been playing this campaign off and on for about 7-10 ...

CDR killed when ship sinks question

<t> Hey all,<br/>
A number of times, I will have a ship get badly wounded in combat, but not sink. I will send the ship back to a port. Several times (in fact, it seems most times), when the ship sinks many turns later, either at sea or even docked in port, the CO of the ship dies.<br/>

This isn't specific to WITP, but it is based in the Pacific theater and I thought you all might really enjoy it. It is by far the best video of its type I have seen.<br/>

RE: Ship repair question

<t> Thanks for the inputs.&nbsp; From what you're saying then, is that even though Sydney is a size 10 port, it's not as 'large' as the mainland ports.&nbsp; Therefore, I'm gonna need to move my capital ships to PH for repairs.<br/>

RE: Ship repair question

Follow up question- will moving one or more AR's to any port significantly affect repair? Can these ships provide any benefit in a TF with a heavily damaged ship, ie. can they 'rescue' a ship struggling to make port before sinking?

RE: sinking battleships

<t> Thanks Marky,<br/>
I was browsing through the A/C database and found out they carry torps.&nbsp; I have one squadron there, but I'm going to need to round up squadrons from all over the map.<br/>

On a separate note, I launched a TBF strike, 8 TBF's only in the attack, and they ...
