RE: an odd win

first strike IS important.  what is odd here is that i didn't to it.  the computer running midway for me did it.  i got in and mopped up after.  i would feel a lot better about it if i had been commanding the midway forces.

an odd win

playing midway as USN (unusual for me). the scenario with saratoga in. assigned midway to the computer. danged if midway didn't find the IJN carriers on first strike and put soryu and akagi out of action immediately. i got in and put kaga and hiryu down and that was it.

RE: Speed?

i know in the original CAW a heavily damaged ship had greatly reduced speed. i have not seen that in this version, but i have not really been looking for it.

RE: bragging on myself

ok, so what i was really trying to find out was if anyone else has experienced a "passive" USN AI in this scenario.

bragging on myself

played philippine sea (the back from the dead variant) as IJN and must say i whomped the AI. sank 9 USN carriers and did not suffer a single air strike against my carriers. am i that good or is the AI not that aggressive in that scenario? i know i got spotted.

is it possible to turn off cursor popup?

i find the popup that shows hex, terrain, and what to do to designate a movement objective whenever the cursor is still to be annoying. can it be turned off?

RE: bombing land installations - ? for gregor

<t> "Well, we put them in because they did happen but early in the war they are, as you have discovered, almost completely ineffectual. High level bombing usually involves dropping a lot bombs to put a few holes in a runway, which are promptly filled in and normal service resumed. If you put enough ...

<t> have played several coral sea, midway and eastern solomons scenarios and have launched both land-based and carrier-based air strikes against the likes of midway, henderson field, gilli gilli, port M. i have yet to record even ONE hit. i don't recall air strikes being terribly effective before ...
