RE: Resource Pool on troops

I remember reading that in November 1918, the German's "pool" of men, that is teenagers who became eligible to be conscripted by ager, were only like 200,000. It was a key consideration on Ludendorf's part in asking for an armistice.

RE: British Intervention

<t> Portugal was sympathetic to the allies from the start and in Feb. 1916, under british encouragement, the Portugese seized 36 German ships in Portugese ports. Germany declared war on portugal in March 1916. the PEF was a disaster though, it was mostly British equipped and did not fare well in ...

RE: British Intervention

<t> The reason I say Tannenburg was not the victory it seemed was because (and you are correct in saying a good chunk of the Russian army was shattered) firstly:<br/>
The main reason I say the Russians were not defeated at Tannenberg was because of Galicia and Brusilov. Granted these were not ...

RE: British Intervention

<t> The Kaiser did order von Moltke to cancel the Schlieffen plan and prepare to deploy troops on the eastern front (On August 2nd) because he [the Kaiser] believed at the 11th hour the British would remain neutral if the Germans avoided violating belgian and luxembourg's neutrality. Motlke refused ...

Are there forts in this game? Is their going to be the possibility of a Verdun and Liege? And if so, what advantages do the Central Powers get when invading Belgium?

Complicatedness?

<t> I know its not a word, but honestly, how complicated is this game to play? Is there a really steep learning curve i.e. Pacific War or is it a pretty straightforward system? Is there a lot of micromanaging or is the player pretty much focused on the strategic aspect of the game?<br/>

RE: Top Five of World War I

<t> I'm just being a smartass, your point is well-taken, despite those technologies being improved and implemented on a relatively large scale, none of them were, in themselves, given their limitations, enough to give anybody a war-winning trump card. The Germans, as I said, had their chance to win ...

RE: Top Five of World War I

<t> I don't know that the German's rejecting the tank was a war losing decision, by the time the tank became something of a regularity on the battlefield, the Germans had already sealed their fate. Besides, mechanized warfare was hardly what it would become, armored cars, tanks and other mechanized ...

<t> German: Rupprecht, I believe is underrated but also Von Hutier <br/>

British: Allenby<br/>

I also think it is really hard to judge the effectiveness of these generals simply because of the volume of forces and the vastness of their operations in regards to their extremely lacking ...

Initial Setup

How will each power's military be deployed at the beginning? Will there be options for every side, say if a central powers player wanted to focus their effort in the east instead of the west or what not. Or are the deployments set in stone?

Resource Question/Trade offs

<t> New to forum and have been waiting for this game for years now. I can't wait. But I have a quick question:<br/>
<br/>
Does researching technology etc. affect manpower/number of available units on the ground. I am just curious about the trade-offs when it comes to devoting resources to research ...
