RE: What WW2 Scenario Would We Like?

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>Mm. Where I see French political problems as coming into play is with the politicians in late May through June. The option of fighting the war tooth and nail was there- but it would have allowed the left to gain the upper hand in French society and no doubt would have had ...

RE: Variable initiative kludge solutions?

Shoot. I wonder how many that is? Is it scenarios where the PO normally is P1 on the first turn, or is it subtler than that?

I just really have a severe hate on for variable initiative.

RE: Variable initiative kludge solutions?

It appeared to work fine, thus giving me precisely what I wanted!

Tutorial (Korea '51) from first turn to glorious communist victory, no initiative flipping. Not an exhaustive test, but Korea always flipped iirc.

Variable initiative kludge solutions?

<r> Was wondering if there was a way to 'kludge' variable initiative. I like PBEM best, obviously, but I'd really enjoy PO play more without variable initiative. I don't like the computer getting it, and I don't like me getting it <E>;)</E><br/>

Greymane: I agree. I'm not sure to what extent the Germans had -exact- information; eg, were they 100% positive the French hadn't made much better provisions for tree demolition? Did they know the 3rd Army cavalry would be going forward? But if you give the French all these theatre ...

RE: What WW2 Scenario Would We Like?

<t> GD: I am enough of a revisionist to say that the war wasn't lost in the 30s. A few brief counterarguments to the usual retorts:<br/>
<br/>
Political division - Very well handled after the general strike of 1938. The whole "bourgeois in terror preferring Hitler to Blum" thing is very 1936-1938 ...

RE: What WW2 Scenario Would We Like?

<t> Well, Don W. Alexander, Mr. Breda Variant himself (You know, I'm pretty sure he never got a job in academia, kind of funny since he's the go-to guy on an historiographical revolution) supported the Dyle plan of November 1939; that's saying something. And yeah, it's a shorter line, better defence ...

RE: What WW2 Scenario Would We Like?

<t> My problem with that notion is that to simulate the actual campaign you have to padlock the French, which isn't a great deal of fun for the French player. That's why it seems to me you could have theatre options to undo, above all, the deployment errors.<br/>

RE: What WW2 Scenario Would We Like?

<r> Another nagging detail for me is France '40 being division units; I've always had the gut feeling TOAW was a better game with the scale kept to regiments tops. I wonder if perhaps a new map just representing the rectangle Abbeville-Marne-North end of Maginot line-Antwerp or something to that ...

RE: What WW2 Scenario Would We Like?

<t> Someone may already have dealt with this one - but I'd love to see a "revisionist" France 1940 - that is to say, one along the lines of the Don Alexander, Julian Jackson, Ernest May, Jeffrey Gunsburg school of thought, that basically just interprets the debacle in terms of operational ...
