RE: I don't want to play anymore

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>That is something I'd like an answer to. Just to be very clear: I understand that a pocket is only safe after the other side has made its move. It is a sensible design choice. What I am talking about is 50 units escaping a giant pocket through a two hex bottle-neck ...

RE: v1.01 Public Beta 2 Now Available!

Why this design? "Shift" is universally used as a modifier, never as an "action". It's much more intuitive if one presses shifts and then clicks to add units to the selection.

RE: v1.01 Public Beta 2 Now Available!

<t> Huge delay if you click an unit, then shift click to select another. Like a full second of delay on a decent PC. Also the clicking sound lags for a second.<br/>
<br/>
Also, units are automatically selected if you move the mouse around while holding shift, without left clicking (not sure if ...

RE: Map snapshot smudged (and problem with 3.4 beta)

<t> Yeah, I noticed that a closer zoom the units where better defined, but I thought that picture I posted had an even better definition and so something was going on. I guess the only thing is to ask if we can have Labels disabled when disabled in the game before 3.4 is released officially. There's ...

Map snapshot smudged (and problem with 3.4 beta)

<r> I was looking at a FitE AAR here on this forum and seeing these beautiful maps:<br/>

Now the problem is that if I run the game and take my own snapshot here is what I ...

RE: Well, I got the new patch...

The LOS on that map is terrible even if the terrain is all flat.

Is it to simulate the undulations of the desert?

Next time why not release a beta patch and skip this marginal work while letting people contribute to the testing?

BTW we already provide a terrain popup tool when you right click on the map. This shows the effects of the current location on movement, and on direct and area fire. See screen dump below. So what more details do you want to see? ANd when do you want ...

RE: We need maps like this....

<t> P.S.<br/>
And if you really wanted an useful tool I also don't think it would be hard to feed the real map data to a very simple wireframe tool that would give the physical representation of a zone. You would keep the current map style and simply pop-up the wireframe window if you were confused ...

If it does, it's very unrealistic. Real terrain often undulates and a rise of even 50m, which would only be partly revealed by right clicking the map, creates both a LOS advantage and obstacle, also a significant movement obstacle to plan for ...

RE: We need maps like this....

<t> Imho there's nothing wrong with the maps. Elevation is actually easy to understand, and for slopes you use the LOS tool. <br/>
<br/>
What the game needs is status icons for the units to see at a glance what is going on (bonuses and maluses due to terrain and so on), and a campaign mode to ...

RE: COTA or HTTR?

<t> Explaining with a concrete example.<br/>
<br/>
There could be a main game sold at full price. Then a small upgrade pack that is released yearly for $15 or so and with 5-6 new scenarios.<br/>
<br/>
Now all the new features and improvements in the engine wouldn't be exclusive of the upgrade ...

RE: COTA or HTTR?

<t> BFTB can be already considered a "patched" engine. Same for COTA. These aren't brand new engines or new games, they are incremental improvements on the same base engine that was designed and built years ago. In non-indie development they would classify as expansion packs (new missions, a few new ...

RE: COTA or HTTR?

<t> I wonder... Since the development of the series is now near to a halt due to the duties of the main programmer/designer, couldn't be a good idea to build a "gold" edition that packs all the scenarios together from the previous titles and makes them compatible with the latest engine?<br/>

I want to finish the tutorial scenario, darn it!

<t> I'm new to wargames (Hearths of Iron 2 aside) and bought TOAW during the past blitz sale along with CotA (that I still need to download and install), but I hope I'm not THAT bad at playing this game because the "tutorial" scenario totally kick my ass.<br/>

It's my fourth attempt but ...
