RE: COTA Patch 3
After having Vista for about 2 months (forced upgrade), I'm convinced this one left the oven before it was done.

Forced upgrade in my case, too. I've thought about overwriting it with my old copy of XP, but I'm not sure if that'll just cause me more trouble.

If you install Vista on a seperate partition on a prior XP it'll allow you to dual-boot.
That was my setup - and then my Vista installation broke and I can't get it running again. Thank Zeus I've still got my old trusted XP

I got a new comp last summer with Vista pre-installed. Dell very kindly sent me an XP pro CD after I complained Vista was not fit for purpose. It proved a good oportunity to erase everything and re organise with three drives (C: is for play [8D] ) . I lost the Vista compatible sound software, at least until I revert to Vista, but otherwise it's all good.

I must be doing something wrong. I got Vista with my new Dell almost a year ago and have had no problems and easy transition.

Me too

RE: COTA Patch 3
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Depends on what you do with your comp.
I was told subsequently that one workaround to make playing online possible- one of a number of reasons for my reverting to XP- is to keep your games outside Program Files. Putting them elsewhere is supposed to avoid all the conection problems that plague the OS. Otherwise a lot of software many people use was and probably still just isn't compatible. I think it's a lot slower than XP too.

Well, on the plus side vista has not crashed on me. But - it's slooow, particularly notice slowdowns when looking through directories. Games are a bit slower, but not terribly so. Boot times are very long for me compared to XP. And Aero resets itself at random.
Can't get my old copy of Office 2000, so there might be another forced upgrade . . .
On the flip side, I bought an iMac for my office and have XP running beautifully on it side-by-side. And for the curious, COTA works great under VMWare . . .

RE: COTA Patch 3
I tried those, and it aborts the install with a message that says "the update does not apply to your system". I tried for both the 32 bit and 64 bit versions, though I know I have a 32 bit system. Got the same message either way. Perhaps they've rolled that into subsequent updates? It's dated August, so it may be out of date.

RE: COTA Patch 3
yes, I believe it's in SP1 slated for a March release, though I'm hearing some 3rd party software maystop working (mainly anti-virus stuff). IMO this should be attribted to 3rd party developers not folloing the new Vista standards.

Hi all,
Just to confirm that we're all done bar testing of Vista. CriticalMass is helping us with that. He's identified a couple of issues that we're looking into. Thanks for your patience.

I'm just waiting on Matrix to make a change to the Read Me file and that's it. Should be up very soon.
RE: COTA Patch 3
Next time why not release a beta patch and skip this marginal work while letting people contribute to the testing?

When I awake on the morrow,
I will be rich and need not borrow
Not with gold will I rejoice
But with COTA will I have my solace.
Tis been a long wait indeed
Not made better by internet speed

It’s faster still than Arizona’s spout.[;)]
OK, so I didn’t miss my “calling”. [8|] I’m just trying to kill another 1.5 hours of download time.
To all the PG team who labored on this mega patch, thank you.
