Re: Abra De Ilog Passage, 2028 -- new beta for testing

I think I've fixed the scoring issue. I've uploaded version 2. Please let me know if it works properly. Thanks!

Thanks. I'll check the scoring issue. I thought I fixed it, but I must have missed something.

Re: Question about amphibious landings

Interesting. It used to be if you landed troops in "water" terrain that they were STUCK. They must have changed the speed modifier on that kind of terrain.

You may not be able to avoid landing troops on the "water" terrain. I make most of my scenarios in the Japanese archipelago, and there are ...

Abra De Ilog Passage, 2028 -- new beta for testing

A new scenario for testing...

The Philippines is dealing with a new insurgency that has taken a page from the Houthi playbook and is attacking merchant shipping. You command forces tasked with protecting merchant shipping and eliminating insurgent forces.

As always, please let me know what you ...

Re: Question about amphibious landings

Any advice on which terrains in Command are better or worse for amphibious landings?

I'm assuming a key factor is how much the terrain slows down the ground units. So whatever terrain you're dealing with, more slope is worse than less slope. And you want to have fewer natural obstacles (trees, mud ...

Question about amphibious landings

Quick question (but probably not one with a quick answer)...

How do you figure out where you should perform amphibious landings? There are, of course, several different terrains in Command, and each piece of land has its own slope. (By the way, roughly how large is each "pixel" of land?) What are ...

Re: Issues with weather in Command

I tend to treat "light" cloud cover as "scattered" and "moderate" as "broken," but I admit I don't really know exactly what the terms mean or how they affect sensors, etc. Mostly, I'm just trying to get the conditions in the game reasonably close to what things are like in terms of real world ...

Re: US bases

Hope I'm not butting in here, but it sounds like you are putting together a very large scenario and you mentioned it is the first one you have written.

May I recommend you save this scenario for later and do a few other, less complex ones first?

Some aspects of scenario writing for Command are ...

Re: Issues with weather in Command

I'm not saying it doesn't happen (I used to live in South Dakota, so I know some places do have extreme temperature changes), but it's not what I normally find when I research temperatures, weather, etc. Anyway, I wish there was a way to do something about it. It's a very minor issue, but it annoys ...

Issues with weather in Command

Two issues...

First, this is minor, but it has always bothered me that the temperature range for Command is so extreme. When I look up weather for various parts of the world when I'm designing a scenario, few places regularly have a 20-degree C (36-degree F) change between midnight and noon. A more ...

Re: AI Troubles, what am I doing wrong?

As for intention, don't worry. I assume players will modify settings, tactics, etc. as they need to. If there was something the player HAD to do or absolutely could not do, I would have included it in the briefing (e.g., "Due to limited supplies, units under your command may not engage opportunity ...

Re: AI Troubles, what am I doing wrong?

When I try to unzip the .save file, I get an error message.

When I opened the original scenario in the editor, I saw that under the side doctrine that "Engage opportunities" is set to "No." Could this be causing the problem?

Re: AI Troubles, what am I doing wrong?

So here's a quick scenario save showing the potential issue:

In this scenario my two friendly CAP aircraft are on their way to the patrol area and are about to be engaged by two marked-hostile tracks before they arrive. They absolutely will not engage in response if left to their own devices ...

Any thoughts on Version 2? Are there any other changes, corrections, etc. necessary or is it ready for the Community Scenario Pack? Thanks.

Re: Thoughts on the Command AI and scenario design

It took me a long time to learn this lesson.

"make missions small and specific"

This has been my mantra almost since CMNAO 1.0. You can see just in the tech forum all the unanticipated things that can happen if you toss 20 aircraft into a mission and just tell them, "go bomb that".

Thoughts on the Command AI and scenario design

I've posted this in a couple of places, but I thought I would post it here, too, for anyone who might find my ideas useful.

I’ve been reading the discussions of Command’s artificial intelligence—or lack thereof—and I would like to offer some advice to scenario designers.

My thoughts are not based ...
