Terrain-following radar - does it matter?

I saw an old thread on the subject of TFR and its in-game effects, but what I don't understand is how, for instance, an F-111F can engage in terrain-following without activating its TFR.

Specifically:
1) Order the TFR-equipped a/c to Min Altitude and check the terrain-following checkbox.
2) The a/c ...

Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object for all Quick Battles

I'm getting an error every time I do a Quick Battle. It pops up a small window stating:

Error: Object reference not set to an instance of an object

I have a vanilla public Beta install with the only "mods" being the pics and description files from Warfaresims.

Is this a known issue? Possibly due ...

Re: Sea Power

My one observation is that it has taken CMO literally ~12 years to get to its present state of development. Then again, CMO has to contend with things like CEC with its complex interaction between firing platforms and off board sensors (and that’s just one small example). Things in the 80s were ...

What a wonderful wargame

I'm not entirely sure why this game isn't getting more attention, it is literally a dream come true for this 58 year old "Cold Warrior"! The ability to dynamically generate a fun scenario with just a few mouse clicks is outstanding. It's like a toy box full of all my favorite old 80's equipment ...

Re: Marching Eagles by Paul Bruffell

The game has received several patches at this point and it has never once locked up or crashed for me.

My only real criticism is that the stacking limit of 3 units per area (and that includes leader units) is based more on the limitations of the ancient engine the game is base upon, rather than ...

Re: You Folks Have It Kind of Easy

This is awesome stuff! Would love to hear more of your insights re: how to best defend against the WP hordes ;)

Any advice on what to read? Also, what do you think about the impact of thermal imaging? Seems like it would've derailed quite a bit of Soviet technique, given their fondness for smoke in ...

Re: Armored Brigade Dev Diary #1 - Artificial Intelligence

Well, this didn't work out. I sincerely hope that your next game uses scripting (or else ChatGPT!) with pre-made (handcrafted) scenarios, because the "dynamic AI" in AB is pretty bad. It does do a fine job of simulating Soviet ineptitude, but is otherwise pretty hopeless. Which is a shame, because I ...

Chir River Battles

I would love to use this system to recreate a boardgame (like 48th Panzer Korps) which deals with the defensive battles around the Chir River (as described by Mellenthin and Balck). There are several excellent boardgames on the subject, but few of the computer variety.

Any advice on how to proceed ...

Re: New Game?

I find it ironic that the greatest historical wargame ever made (Hannibal: Rome and Carthage) has no sequel yet.

My theory is that greatness on this level must be really hard to deliver.

HRC has never left, and will never leave my (HDD->SSD->Crystal whatever). It teaches you more about the 2nd ...

<t> I would love to see smaller turn lengths for the smaller, operational-level scenarios. <br/>

Wouldn't it involve simply scaling back the movement factors to implement this? With an IGOUGO system like this, it somewhat cripples these smaller scenarios when the decision cycle is a week ...

RE: BARBAROSSA CAMPAIGN AAR by Stauffenberg

<r> What a <I><s></s>magnum opus<e></e></I> of an AAR! I totally agree that this wargame is really something special and I predict it will never leave anyone's SSD once they've tried it. It's truly unique in its combination of breadth and depth of decision-making, and yet is somehow ...

RE: Windows 10 compatibility sort of

<t> I did manage to get a fully functional Win7 install via the brute force method of installing an entirely new 512gb SSD to my notebook and booting into that whenever I want to use Win7. I realize that doesn't solve the Win10 incompatibility issue, but I'm leaving it here just in case someone else ...

<t> Well, I managed to get Windows & installed and working on my modern Win10 laptop (thank God it's a Skylake i7-6700HQ processor and so I managed to scrounge around the internet and assemble enough drivers to get it working). <t> I appreciate it. Unfortunately my sole remaining Windows 7 device has a bad GPU, so I'm stuck with Intel integrated graphics (game looks like a slideshow). It's really weird because only certain scenarios are affected. That would seem to indicate it's not something fundamental with the game ...

RE: New Player - Wondering how to get in to the game.

<t> The beauty of this game (and why it's a timeless classic that will still be played 30+ years from now) is that you don't actually have to know every little thing going on "under the hood" to play it, and even play it well. Just reading a basic history of the war during the period would tell you ...

RE: Windows 10 compatibility sort of

It runs fine on win 10 except for the Gypsy Baron (Spzabt 503) scenarios that were part of the last patch. It loads under Win7 but with Win10 it crashed when it gets to "Loading Units".

Which really sucks since I'm really interested in the Debrecen 44 offensive.
