Re: Heavy Flak Effectiveness: A Controlled Test Across Two Turns (Aug 1943, Ruhr)

As the Germans I am not concerned if I am not shooting down aircraft. Damaged aircraft don't drop bombs, and that is the real goal.....less damage means less vp's. You will never attrit the allies so much to make them lose more aircraft then they get.

In my game I noticed that the cities that I ...

Re: Ger Air Super vs Interception

Three reasons why Air Superiority missions are bad for the Axis.

1) Fighters on Air Superiority must fly and fight anything in their chosen box. Not just bombers. You give the allies the ability to target only your fighters by flying their own A/S missions that intersect your A/S box.

2) Fighters ...

Re: Heavy Flak Effectiveness: A Controlled Test Across Two Turns (Aug 1943, Ruhr)

Hmm...I have to look into this. I do some things differently that might effect the results you are seeing. For example I build depots in every factory hex so they would all have full ammo regardless of rail yard damage. Also, I activate priority repair and attach a construction battalion for all ...

Re: Experimenting with Air Doctrines

For simplicity and ease of doing my turn, I will try to put all the different types of axis aircraft in their own air HQ.

For example in my current game, I have all the day fighters in JG1. Night Fighters in JG2. LB's in Luftwaffe Reich and so on. The Italians I do something similar although they ...

Re: Experimenting with Air Doctrines

Fighting the airwar is much different then fighting in Western Europe.

The Allies are limited but airbases. They can only cram so much with what they have. The airbases in Sicily can only reach so far. Because of this, the Axis can actually maintain air superiority over different regions of Italy ...

Re: Experimenting with Air Doctrines

As someone who has played the Germans a fair bit back in the day, and recently a few times I have a few things to say about the German airforce.

First of all...the goal of the German airforce is not to try and shoot down the enemy bombers. You just want to discourage them a bit so they either ...

German Supply in France

When the game starts, as the Germans, I will spend admin points every turn on several very important missions.

1st. Transferring flak to the Ruhr. There is a lot of 'surplus' flak units spread all over Germany guarding things such as ports or minor factory hexes. I move all that to the city hexes ...

A Rebuttle

The Axis do not need to repair rail lines. They should never be in a position to push forward far enough for it to matter without the game being over as an Axis win. The allies do not need to destroy Axis rail with cheezy paradrops. They can easily suppress the rail lines and prevent the flow of ...

Re: Allied Airfield Bombing Feels OP

The German airforce is going to die. There is no 'winning' the airwar....it was lost on Sept 1, 1939 when they invaded Poland.

What you can do is delay the inevitable. Don't fly air superiority missions. They just make your fighters available to be shot down. Sure, you may shoot down a few more ...

Re: Allied Airfield Bombing Feels OP

When I played the Germans I would build airbases in all the Ruhr city hexes. They contain a lot of flak which can also protect your airfields.

As well, I would make all the fighter squadrons trained pilots only, and make all the other squadrons no pilots. I can always give them untrained ones ...

<t> <br/>
<br/>
Combat Value is something that actually has very little to do with combat.<br/>
<br/>
It is a calculated value based on what ready elements a unit contains. There will be several multipliers/divisors. Finally, at the end of combat, the CV of the attacker will be compared to the ...

RE: Conversion of Freights to the Actual Materials

<t> <br/>
<br/>
Freight is freight. Nothing else. Only when a unit 'needs' or requests stuff will that freight be converted into ammo/fuel/supplies/replacements.<br/>
<br/>
If freight is lost in transit, it is only freight. The actual items lost is converted into stuff which is removed from the ...

Perhaps it may not have been recon'ed enough. The mission won't hit a target it doesn't think exists, or thinks is already severely damaged.

I have received my manual...the package showed some signs of leprechaun's attempting entry, but the book withstood their assault and arrived in mint condition.

Time to relearn the game....starting with the new air system.

Well, I didn't disband all my infantry. I left full corps on the westwall, and had about 5-6 more to provide flank protection. As well I had even built 3 infantry corps that arrived in time for Case Yellow. A quick count shows I have about 20 infantry corps on the map.<br/>

RE: How to ruin the game?

<r> <br/>
The 'secret' to defeating the French quickly is Armour. Disband all your bombers on the first turn. They are very useful units to be sure, but not as useful as the Panzers you will buy with them.<br/>
<br/>
Buy three panzer corps first turn. Then buy one a turn (disbanding infantry ...

Supply: Turkey

<r> <br/>
Hex 187,34 has a road hex in it, and it needs to either go, or be turned into a Rail line.<br/>
<br/>
Right now the only effect is to completely prevent units from getting supply in Turkey through the ports. Instead, supply is assumed to come from the last rail line before the road, and ...

RE: surface ships 'raider' exploit?

You do know that anyone with a large surface fleet can port attack and get a surface combat in his favour, right? Don't use carriers, they are not very good at port attacks, just drive all your BB's up and sink the fleet in port

Well..I didnt do it....so hard to tell what might have been. He had 9 fleets in it when I thought of it. Not sure if having it disappear would be useful to the British in the short or long term. But a better question to ask is: Would the loss of the para and inf div be worth the loss of ...
