Pathfinders and night bombing

Post by DTomato »

Do the British Mosquitos with Gee and H2X improve the accuracy of night bombing? If they do, does the bonus add to the bonus for operating within the Oboe zone around the Ruhr?

Night Time bombing response

Post by kentkroeckel »

Greetings Mr. D. Tomato. In the manual just after strategic bombing it talks a little bit about this. 17.3.4.1 This is in reference to OBOE United Kingdom radar. It only gives a bonus for nighttime bombing. And to be more specific, only for strategic bombing that I am aware of. Another, point; only level bombers are able to conduct strategic bombing. Playing a traditional game, only the Royal Air Force Bomber Command is able to conduct strategic bomber missions with this bonus.

Strategic bombing missions: Level bombers only, for the bombing portion.

Headquarters:

American 8th Air Force:
Located on United Kingdom.
Can perform day and night strategic bombing missions.

Strategic Air Force: Chances to 15 Air Force:
Located in Mediterranean.
Can perform day and night strategic bombing missions.

Royal Air Force Bomber Command:
Located on United Kingdom.
Can perform day and night strategic bombing missions.
Gets OBOE radar bonus when performing night strategic bombing missions in designated radar area.

Note:
I believe this bonus only applies to United Kingdom eligible aircraft in the Royal Air Force Bomber Command.

Next possibility is that it could apply to eligible United Kingdom aircraft under one of the American strategic bombing command. But I would have doubts.

Final possibility is that it could apply to eligible American aircraft under Royal Air Force Command. However, I would doubt this one the most because American level bombers do not have British special radar.

Could not find a definitive answer on this Mr. D. Tomato so will have to defer to a WitW expert. Contact Mr. Liquid Sky or Mr. Seminole.

Good luck, Kent.

The OBOE bonus applies only if the target is within 27 hexes of one of four fixed radar stations. Those stations are located at these map hexes:

58,183
76,182
87,180
90,170

Also the aircraft have to be OBOE equipped....you can see it in the aircraft load-out. I don't think the Air-HQ they are assigned to matters.

EDIT: Ahh..you are specifically talking about the Mosquitos. I'd have to read up on what their load out does. Is it more for air-air rather then bombing targets?

EDIT the edit: Yup...those systems are for OBOE navigation. The manual specifically says that it helps night strategic bombing.
