I've noticed in my 6.0 game that ships are standing-off much better also. Maybe pirates need better weapons to start with now.

Thats really odd. I would automate it and see if it will load troops on its own. Thats pretty much how I keep my troop ships full anyway so I don't have to micro-manage them. Or maybe the troop compartments aren't finished, strange.

Oh, I forgot to mention moon names. This has been a problem from the start and the new naming system isn't any better. Sorry. The names need to include the system they are in and the planet they orbit imo.

Independant Freighters Attacking

They are relentless and suicidal! They attack my ships but my bases gladly let them dock, if they survive. The alarms from them attacking me is driving me to distraction. What the heck did I do? Using new beta.
