I have been holding off on downloading it. Just been wondering generally how it has been going?

Bad.
Capital ships cant move
Retrofit from ship list doesnt work
 
that for me killed the game till next patch. My advice is hold off patching.

I haven't encountered the Capital Ship issue.

Retrofitting is annoying though.

I'm having fun with it.

AI designed ones move, I find that if I design them and keep them to no more than 15 engines they can move.
but it is a pretty major huge bug.

... Ok, ok, that was a pretty bad one. [:-]

In related note, I find it completely playable aside from retrofitting and ship speed bug.

uhm... can anyone summarize the major changes so I don't have to read the whole change log... since I won't understand it much as I haven't played it yet anyway...
