Re: (re) buying on win11

Did the videos and music play before it crashed?

I think I had to install a thing called Div X on one PC to get it to run. Oh, and let the video thing run all the way.

I re ran WW1G just to see if it still works - every windows 11 update adds a chance of messing things up. On one of my pcs it ...

Re: (re) buying on win11

It works on my Windows 11 home and pro Pcs. But only by copying a complete installation from another pc and putting that in a new folder on the Windows 11 pc.
I have no idea why that works but that hours spent trying to do a new install be it from disc or downloaded from Matrix wouldn't work. I got ...

Re: What Book Are You Reading at the moment?

Just finished Battle Cry of Freedom by James McPherson - a highly regarded book on the American Civil War.

Now onto "Cromwell - our chief of men" by Antonia Fraser.

I should have read those tutorials years ago - so many pixel troops have died un-necessarily.
Thanks for the link

Re: Excellent game

I've had it for years and never really tried it even though I find the era of Marlborough interesting.

I just looked at some of the tutorial videos and if the figures are right barely 500 people viewed them. It must be disheartening to put so much effort into making a game with so much historical ...

Re: Wars of Succession has been updated to version 1.01

A bit late but it seems to be the 1.01 patch on Steam even though it says 1.0 - at least the patch notes seem to show 1.01 is the current steam version.

Re: Patch 1.03 Beta again available at Matrix

Hmm...

Something odd at the Ageod site today - some missing links and a dodgy post.

I got 1.03 Beta working.

On one PC I have a Borodino scenario, but not on another. Oh well.

Well six years on and I am installing these games on my new windows 11 PCs.

They are excellent for those who like history and maps.

Re: Screen resolution for COTD

Update 2026 - 6 years on - same problem on a new Windows 11 Pro PC - all the menu items were blank.

Same solution worked - I copied all the font from the fonts sub directory of windows on an old PC - about 300 in total.

I then posted all the font into the fonts sub directory of the windows ...

Re: Games kills eyes

I agree with gamer78 - WITP-AE font was always too fuzzy for me. Ageod fonts are small too.

I've started using Windows Magnifier on some games with small text. Press:

Windows button + Num lock + Plus key
You can vary the magnification rate and move the panel around.
Not ideal but sometimes ...

Fastest ever victory (and defeat) in Mortain

Allied victory in turn one because of two staff blunders by the Axis - me.

Eager, too eager, to start I loaded the new scenario.

Error 1.
Forgot to set Allies to AI and realised this blunder as the scenario started.

Error 2.
Pressed Surrender instead of Quit - so Allies got a victory before I had ...

Re: WiS players: do you recommend WiTP:AE?

There are some recent AARs for the two big WW1 games that Ageod produced if you want an idea of what they do.

To End All Wars
World War 1 Gold

I'll post links later as I am piddling around on a phone at the moment.

Have you tried Rise of Prussia or Thirty Years War - both by Ageod.

Both seem to be geographically on your patch.

Re: WiS players: do you recommend WiTP:AE?

Pride of Nations - about 1600 turns even if you spend only half an hour a turn that is a huge commitment - heck it takes about 5 minutes just to process the turn.

Wars of Napoleon - again about a thousand turns - and slow processing of turns.

Have you actually played them beginning to end? Kudos ...

Re: WiS players: do you recommend WiTP:AE?

@vinnland
Other games I think too big:

WITE2 - the manual is a good doorstop though at 500 pages

Wars of Napoleon (Ageod) the earlier Napoleon's Campaigns is "better" because the Napoleonic Wars were largely a series of discrete campaigns.

Pride of Nations - another Ageod game

I have all the ...

Re: WiS players: do you recommend WiTP:AE?

It is too big.

There are about 4000 pieces you need to decide what to do with on the first turn - it will take you a week.
Someone has even prepared a spreadsheet to help you with the first day.

There are some people to whom these huge games are an attraction - I suggest reading the forum for ...
