Fleets

I find the AI is taking ships from my fleets, even though I have fleet management set to manual control. Any ideas?

I tried with 1.0.2 and no go. Had about 10 or so new freighters built and they were all obsolete designs.

Ship role and design

I recently got the long range scanner tech and am looking to make use of it. Ship building seems constrained by the roles, so I'm not sure how to make a recon type base or ship. Should I just use them on the explorer? Are they good to add to star ports/bases?

I obsoleted my freighter designs and none of the new ones have been purchased. Freighters are still being built but they seem to be the obsolete designs. Under the design list, all the news ones ...

Ship Orders

So far, I am having a tough time with the AI giving my ships orders. I am having pirate attacks in several areas, but the AI is piling on my escorts (patrol) in a single spot. Any ideas? I would like the AI to continue to control them due to refueling issues.
