AFAIK, you can only put research labs on stationary platforms such as bases.

Diggydad, I'm not sure. I don't know of a way, personally. I really think its a bug because it should happen automatically. The PRIVATE sector, just because theres a base there, should fuel it.

<t> Taltamir, there has to be some radiant energy for the collectors to, well, collect. Thats why you get less energy collected the further out from a sun you are in a system. Go to a gas field with no star or anything and just idle - no energy collection because there is nothing to collect ...

<t> Astax, yes, energy collectors do work on ships. Of course, said ships need to be stationary, somewhat reducing the usefulness. Put them on all warships since they tend to park somewhere for awhile doing nothing until they need to spring into action.<br/>

As for #4: Spaceports need only the 1 cargo hold to make it meet specs because it uses the planets cargo anyways. I also put only the one cargo bay on all other bases that require it and have never had a problem. The only base type I put extra cargo holds on are gas/mining bases.

Yarasala, it would certainly be a more expensive expansion, not necessarily a slower one if you wanted to eat the gas bill so YOUR empire got that juicy world with X resource first. I would like to play that (mod) though, heh. Also, along with that, an expanded tech section with more techs.

Very few for explorers either - I find its better just to make sure they have the best proximity scanner and a lot of engines! Heh. If they have very fast they can easily escape creatures/whatever.

Taltamir, I, too, build a full small spaceport on every single colony except for highly strategic/super-resource planets which get either a large or medium.
