Add xenophobia!

Post by Falokis »

I would love to see xenophobia as a trait for certain races or as a game winning option. What I mean by this, I would like to see (insectoid, for example) races hate others so much they won't even assimilate them. They would rather wipe them out and then take over the planet. I personally don't understand why this isn't the way it is already seeing how certain races hate each other.

I understand I can do it, but it's a tactic I would like to see the certain AI prefer to invasion or assimilation.

I agree. Might spice things up to know the buggers tend to scathe planets rather than invading.

I also think planetary populations should be "eaten" by this type of invader, perhaps they get larger, but more temporary bonuses from "assimilation" as they are actually enslaving/engulfing the millions they captured in the invasion.

Another thing is the game doesn't even allow me to play a xenophobic play style. If I have a good empire, other races naturally migrate to my planets.

I don't want them [:@]

Just give a check box that won't allow migration or/and migration isn't optional for certain races.

Check out the 'Unoficial Patch Mods': Vanilla, Strawberry, Tropical, or Chocolate for Master of Orion 3.

Vanilla fixes bugs and finishes some refinement and does not change intended gameplay or appearence.

Not exactly what I was looking for, but that looks like a good project. I'm might try it out and see what I think of it. I'm no modder or I would do it myself. The rules would be simple if anyone wants to help me out.

1. Races can mix inside their sub-class (insectoid with insectoid, humanoid with humanoid, etc), but will not mix with other sub-classes when invading or colonizing.
2. They will not migrate to enemy sub-race territory or swap alliances.
3. Enemy sub-races exterminate rather than colonize.

Modding is never simple, but if anyone that can do it is bored, I will thank you for it.

Still broken... chocolate is the closest to playable that MOO3 ever got... but it is still a broken game.

Broken, and still one of the greatest disappointments of my life (i've had a generally happy life). Thats why I have high hopes for DW, nothing has yet come close to recapturing the spirit for me.

I have to agree... I preordered the game, MOO2 is one of my favorite games of all time. Right up there with games such as mortal kombat (original), star control 2, and masters of magic.
I keep on coming back and retrying MOO3 every now and then in futile hopes that I was too harsh on it or that modders managed to fix it... I tried chocolate 2 weeks ago; it was a valiant effort (I ran the game unmodded first for comparison), vut I don't see the game as fixable without the source code to modify.

Noneof this has to be hard-coded, it could be a simple popup like in MoO2. Give players the choice!

Yep. I said in one of the posts just add a check box in options, but I'll look into MoO2.

Yep.

When I get bored of modern gaming I slap it in and pound out most of the game in an evening (i know my way around a crashed ur-quan warp pod)

Dear Matrixgames:

Please open moddability to enable the development of starcontrol 2 style adventure games based on the DW engine.

Would be awwweeesome.

Ah, another thing about this.

If I was an insectoid race, shouldn't bombarding a planet full of humanoids make other insectoids like me more? If insectoids dislike humanoids instinctively, shouldn't this make other insectoids happy with me and vice versa?

they might be creepy and nasty looking, but that doesn't mean we condone genocide...
Think about it, no matter how enlightened you are, a race of insects would creep you out... imagine maggots crawling in decaying flesh, thats "cute babies" to them... they are scary and creepy and nasty and give you the heebi gibbies... But that is not reason to applaud their genocide.
