Think of it as you having researched a way to get more out of your existing components. No hardware changes, just the ship's chief engineer being told a better way of running the component that was discovered through research back home.

I always play on the largest galaxy size, and it's always littered with many duplicate system names. I've never seen it not have many duplicate names, so just spinning up a new game should demonstrate the issue.

The fact that it happens after playing a while, and disappears on a reload, suggests a memory leak to me. If so, then it will be fixable if they can pin it down.

Yeah, I'm a little baffled as to what it might be. Unless you accidentally have ship design on manual without realizing it, so you're still using intro tech on all of your ships, even though you have better techs?

As far as I know, the AI gets no bonuses to combat, they play by the same rules as ...

Won't this change add a lot of micromanagement? Previously if a planet or star showed it had hidden resources I could plunk a mine there and forget about it and eventually the resource would show up. Now I will (I guess?) have to manually do further exploration, maybe after new exploration tech ...

They're a software company, they almost certainly have their own QA testers (as well as closed beta testers) that will have channels for reporting bugs that aren't open to the public.

I have mixed feelings. Some of those super high discovery level things would get locked behind late game tech if you couldn't use a mining station to discover them. I can see how that could be a good thing, adding some continuous discovery throughout the game. The only concern I'd have is that ...

What is the Teekan population on the planet? Can't quite see it in the screenshot. To be able to load colonists, the planet must have more than 500M inhabitants + the number of colonists you will be loading. So for the early game colony ships, there needs to be 530M inhabitants of that race.

Oh, and if you choose the race in the setup, in the description along the side, it will list the preferred types for it.

Yes, I often leave them on Random, and they always seem to choose something appropriate - usually one of the preferred government types, but certainly never a disallowed one.
