Re: Limits on Transports

Thanks Bill!

I've just realised something, that the right-click menu has the transport limits on it but only when the option isn't grayed out. I had been previously using the toolbar buttons so hadn't noticed this feature.

Probably my biggest difficulties with the game is the UI not always being ...

Limits on Transports

What is the starting limit on number of active naval transport and amphibious transports for each major, assuming no tech has been researched? Is this limit displayed anywhere in game?

What about minor powers?

The manual didn't seem to cover these other than saying there is a limit?

Do supply ...

Re: Ground Attack Bombers not building despite Aerial Warfare Research Level 2

Thanks for the response, the game is confusing due to the "Requires Aerial Warfare Research" the build limits mechanic isn't communicated to the player clearly. It's also confusing as there is a 2nd and 3rd unit in the "Set name" section.

I think the game would be clearer if the "Requires Aerial ...

Ground Attack Bombers not building despite Aerial Warfare Research Level 2

I'm playing Call to Arms as Central Powers on steam with latest updates. I completed all Aerial Warfare research up to level 2 for Germany and managed to build one Ground attack bomber but cannot build another as the text has turned red saying needs Aerial Warfare research but it's maxed out ...

Re: Holding frontlines after opposition get better artillery

Thanks really good advice and very helpful. Feel like I'm starting to get a better sense of what to expect now. The change from solid unattackable frontlines up to late 1915 to ones which you cannot prevent corps losses is quite jarring! This game is interesting as you really have to think what to ...

Re: New player questions as CP vs AI

Thanks Michael your help is really appreciated. Do airships give an artillery bonus to a reconned hex? You suggested building them instead of recon bombers but I only get the red hex outline meaning artillery bonus with recon bombers. Am I right in thinking airships are used more as spotters to ...

Holding frontlines after opposition get better artillery

In my learning games as the Central Powers (Call of Arms vs Intermediate AI) I'm finding I do well in the first year or so of the game but when the French tech up their artillery it gets harder to hold hexes in the west in particular.

In the latest I'm in late 1915 and have trenches at level 4 ...

Re: New player questions as CP vs AI

Thanks Michael that is really helpful indeed, I'm playing as Central powers by the way, gave up on my first game in 1916, doing better on my second.

Tried the march on Basra from turn 1 but only got as far as Baghdad.... I forgot to operate across Turkey initially though, even so think it requires ...

New player questions as CP vs AI

On my first ever full game of vanilla Call to Arms it is also my first SC game.

Finding it tough going while I'm learning the mechanics etc and its far from certain that I will be succcesful on this playthrough. Been caught out or confused by:-

1) Not being sure what units I was getting when as ...

Thanks guys, I'll look at the games you mention. Good points from Fred98 on tooltips, they can be useful in the right places but a nuisance done badly.

Best UI in a computer hex based wargame?

Often when I read reviews of computer hex wargames I hear comments along the line of "good game but the UI is poor". So I'm wondering what a good UI in a hex-based game might actually look like.

So wondering what the readers of these forums think, is there an example of such a game with a solid or ...

Great AAR Loki. Any ideas how you might improve things to get a decisive victory and get to Berlin earlier? Do you think the rule changes in recent versions have made things harder or is the AI just better now?

RE: What to Do After Sicily

<t> Only thing with using the Sicily ports or any captured port is the port is often damaged. The manual doesn't state if the damage to the port affects the prep rate, I would guess it does but have never tested it. If it does then you have to add in extra time either for port repair or slower prep ...

RE: Newbie Victory points

<t> Yes this screen is one of the most unclear in the game. If I remember correctly the 750 in brackets next to Ax means 750% ie that the points are multiplied (scaled) by 7.5<br/>
<br/>
So your men points is (7838/1000)*(750/100) = 58.7 I guess the 7838/1000 is rounded down before multiplying by ...

RE: T42

Getting v.interesting in your campaign. I would halt in Italy, N.France is where you can win this one I think, you've done well in Italy, but I can't see what else you can achieve there now?

One thing puzzles me is why you switched to unit bombing?
