Re: 7 laps NOT 3

I suspect that that sort of thing would have been described at least once over the many hundreds of years the races occurred. Still, it may be unremarked. I'm not a specialist in Roman sports by any means; who knows what has been found? I just go by the reading I've done.

Still, it makes me wonder ...

Re: 7 laps NOT 3

A little more research will show you that the 7 lap figure holds for Rome, for a period of time, but later the races were shortened by various emperors to fit in more races per day. The Greeks had standardized on 12 as the Olympic standard, but there were other numbers depending on the event. The ...

Avira detects HEUR/APC in Start.exe

Bought the game shortly after release and fired it up then to look around. No issues. Today, I tried to start it, but Avira quarantined the Start.exe file with a HEUR/APC detection. Since I have done nothing to the game since I last used it, I believe this is a false positive on the part of Avira ...

RE: I really enjoy this game...

<t> I'm really enjoying digging in. I'm still learning and every time I fire up the game, I figure out something that I was not doing right or just plain ignored in the previous turns. And yet the information is right there, easy and fast to access, and once you understand a system it makes perfect ...

RE: Bridges

<t> Crucial point here. Bridge work done by engineers requires Engineer Points, not Action Point. EPs are gained by parking your engineer unit next to the bridge and then waiting. The unit will gain EPs each turn. When you have enough, select the unit and go to the unit menu in the upper right side ...

RE: A Fantastic Game-BUY IT

<r> After what happened to the fine "Brother Against Brother", I want to join the chorus urging those who enjoy solid, interesting, detailed wargames to jump in. Can't let another good game wither because too many people decide to "wait for the third time it's on sale", hoping to save $5. Jump in ...

RE: How many times have you restarted?

<r> I reloaded about six times to learn the various subsystems. Each time I played a bit farther. Now I'm confident enough to actually finish the playthrough. Crucially, though, I reloaded the same turn 1 save each time, so things didn't get too confusing. That let me get a feel for how doing things ...

I'm with Will. Which is to say, I don't necessarily agree with all his ideas here, but he made his argument well and I respect that.

RE: How does OHQ Commander get killed in action?

<t> Accounts from the Ukraine show deliberate targeting of leaders as they move around between units. It gets very sophisticated, there are a ton of ways to do it with today's tech, much less the (presumed) tech in this game. In the real world, the Russians have been able to decapitate units at the ...

RE: Compared to Flashpoint ot WinSPMBT?

<t> AB is more like Graviteam's games, or a platoon/company scale Combat Mission, than it is like any turn-based game. I get that people want to compare it to those, but the differences are real. Events occur within the scale of a hex, and within the timeframe of a turn, that are necessarily ...

You probably ended up doing all that work to seize the dummy objective. "Division said the ammo dump was just over this ridge, wtf is it?!" :-)

RE: Weird preview feedback

<t> This is not making fun, I'm serious. I've had that problem before and while acclimatization through exposure eventually fixes it, both anti-nausea drugs (like Dramamine, nothing hard to get) and ginger root (get the candied kind, easier to eat) actually work to mitigate the effects. Take your ...

RE: Nice work

Peter, you've really done a good job with this game. You've captured the board game feel, and also somehow put that "just one more turn" function into the AI. That's a rare thing in any game, and you have nailed it here. Congratulations!

RE: Feature Request

<r> First off, I really enjoy this game. The UI is a bit click heavy, but then, moving stuff around and examining stacks and such on a board is even more labor intensive. I find I'm clicking through things intuitively now, with just a few scenarios tried.<br/>

However, that leads to a ...

That latter bit is likely the issue, the automated update checker died on me and I upgraded from 1.01.01. I'll try reloading. Thanks!

Erik,

Beta patch files extracted and installed correctly on Win 10. Fails to start with message "Failed to extract project file to memory". Any insight?
