Time and victory conditions

Post by blackcloud6 »

I just played a Soviet Advance vs US defense (not dug in nor fortified). I suffered only 5 vehicles lost and 1 routed and 2 soldiers killed. The enemy lost 5 vehicles and 36 soldiers. I took one of two objective. The battle lasted 1 hour 29 minutes. I suffered a Total Defeat. This was set in 1975. My tanks were T-55s with BTR-60s. I had PT-76 and BRDM recon vehicles which were where most of my losses occurred. I did have a section of Hinds in support, one was driven off by ground fire. I'm at lost as to why I suffered a total defeat. The only thing I can think of was that I took and hour and half to take the first objective.

Did you use the default victory points? What was the map size?

If you enable 'Show victory levels' in the battle launch options you see the victory bars without the fog of war, and you can get a better idea of who is winning or losing.

Also, seizing and keeping objectives (particularly so during Advance scenario) influnces VP significantly.

Yes it was default victory levels as well as the default map size. And I was using show victory levels. This one was stagne as my moved greatly whenever I suffered a loss.

I took an objective just before the game ended; nothing changed on my victory bar when I did so.

I played a similar generated mission today with approximately the same forces sizes and missions. The entire US force was eliminated and the Soviets suffered over a company of tanks lost. Makes me wonder if in the previous mission I inadvertently changed the victory points or some other parameter.

When you capture an objective there's no sudden change in the victory points. Instead, your points go down slower, and the enemy points go down faster. If it's a 'dummy' objective then it has no effect at all.

OK, thanks, it is nice to know how this works. I was kind of wondering what was happening becasue I would take an objective and nothing would change on the victory line.

You probably ended up doing all that work to seize the dummy objective. "Division said the ammo dump was just over this ridge, wtf is it?!" :-)
