Should I buy this rather than AB2 currently for more content?

Is the game significantly more "filled out" than its sequel since it's been out for ages?

Are there campaigns in the game or only scenarios?

I loved the linked campaigns in the original John Tiller games.

RE: Are units in wooded terrain more vulnerable to artillery fire?

Hmmm so no penalty from artillery? I could have sworn I remember reading something about there being a penalty (due to trees splintering) but maybe I'm thinking of a different game...

Are units in wooded terrain more vulnerable to artillery fire?

A lot of games have rules along those lines but I am having trouble finding anything addressing it in the manual.

Firepower and range relationship

<t> I am having trouble understanding how this works. If I pull up say a German Engineer Platoon 30 unit, it says it has a soft attack value of "3" in the F2 unit description screen. When I click on the little range display within said screen it shows a value of 18 at point blank range. This is from ...

RE: Trying to get game to work on Windows 8

I had not! Installed the patch and changed the animation speed just to my liking -- I'm relieved I was worried there was some Win8 issue.

Thanks for your help Jason, much appreciated.

RE: Trying to get game to work on Windows 8

<t> Ok so it works fine but the animations seem strange. It's difficult to put my finger on it but it seems like it's lagging when moving units. In fast mode it's not noticeable since movement is basically instant, but in "normal" mode the animations seem very "off". If I didn't know better, I'd ...

RE: Trying to get game to work on Windows 8

Ok nvm -- seems I didn't install something that was required. It now works with that installed and running as admin in compatability for Win XP SP3.

Trying to get game to work on Windows 8

I've already tried compatibility mode with XP and Win7 - no luck. Game crashes everytime I try to start a game.

Anyone gotten it working on Windows 8?

RE: Will I still be able to download the game from here?

Is there no one who can tell me what the latest version the game got to before it was discontinued?

Thanks!

Will I still be able to download the game from here?

Or has that expired already/will expire soon?

Also, can anyone point me in the direction of the latest beta patch? I want to make sure I have all the goodies before this stuff disappears :(.

RE: Few questions....

<t> Thanks for the input guys. Still kind of unsure about whether vehicles receive benefit or not from any kind of cover -- it seems the manual's a bit unclear on the subject.<br/>

For the density thing - am I correct in understanding that choosing to stack units in a high cover zone versus ...

Few questions....

<t> 1) Direct fire density bonus: I'm re-reading the section on it in the manual now and tbh I'm having a bit of a hard time trying to figure out when it's worth it to "stack" a hex or not. For example, if I have a trench and an improved position both covering an objective -- am I better off putting ...

RE: Hardest linked campaigns?

Ok thanks guys. Speaking of campaigns, does anyone know how to start a new one without deleting the old? I can't figure out how to rename the campaign file, so it just keeps overwriting the old one if I try to start a new campaign. I can't seem to find where the game stores these files either.

Hardest linked campaigns?

<t> I'm playing the grossdeutschland one from EF right now, and 6 battles in I'm enjoying myself but it's not particularly challenging (yet -- the losses are starting to pile up so that might show later on). With so much content in this compilation, which are the most interesting and/or challenging ...

Using halftracks effectively

I'm having trouble using vehicles like the Stummel effetively in German campaigns/scenarios. They seem so susceptible to artillery fire that anytime I move them out from the rear (if no enemy armor is present), they die fairly quickly. Any suggestions?

RE: Terrain questions

<t> So if I get can my mechanized unit footprint to partially cover some trees, I can get some benefit from the forest cover? <br/>

The reason I was wondering about this is from playing Hell on Wheels Counterattack. As the Germans, one of your two Pak40 units starts out in a forest "wedge ...

Terrain questions

<t> How exactly does a unit's footprint (as in the actual footprint, not the one that you set when giving an order) interact with terrain features like forested areas? For example, if I order an armored or mechanized unit into a spot with just enough clear space for the order to go through but ...
