Re: Snow on Hawaii

Snow at Mauna Kea is not that rare. It's not the latitude (19N), but the altitude (13796 ft).

Re: Any USAF Veterans from the 1980s Here?

Yeah, I still have my Lackland Laser, it's somewhere in the basement. Still has the masking tape with the last four of my SSN on it. All the other stuff we were issued is gone, but it has been forty-four years since I left Medina Annex.

Re: Any USAF Veterans from the 1980s Here?

Was in the USAF from 1978 to 1987. Didn't attend basic at Lackland, but was close. Medina Annex at OTS.

RE: End Game Questions

The scenario names are somewhat confusing: I am playing WITP-AE, but the scenario name is WITP: the Full Campaign.

RE: End Game Questions

<t> I first encountered this while playing WITP many years ago. When WITP-AE came out, I switched over to it but I encountered the same problem. The scenario I am playing is WITP: The Full Campaign against the AI. Twentieth AF under LeMay (air 83) is at Takao with AF capacity of 9, supplies 244533, ...

End Game Questions

<t> I didn't get any response in the War in the Pacific The Struggle Against Japan forum, so I will try here since the same problems I experienced years ago there are the same as here:<br/> <br/> Playing Allied side, late in the war (44-45). Major oil centers have been recaptured in late 1943, i.e. ...

Late Game Questions

<t> Playing Allied side, late in the war (44-45). Major oil centers have been recaptured, i.e. Dutch East Indies, Miri, etc. Most of mainland Asia, including Korea, in Allied hands, with major airbases established for B-29 raids. Japan's merchant fleet has been crippled. All of Japan's aircraft carr...

How about the Swordfish attack on their own light cruiser, the Sheffield, when they were looking for the Bismarck?

RE: Greyhound

I seem to recall, from a couple of years ago, that Tom Hanks was going to do a movie about a DD in the Pacific theater. Something about fighting off kamikaze attacks (USS Laffey? (DD724, not DD459)).

In any case, it is good to see Alan Zimm is still around, still thinking about surface warfare.

RE: Alan Zimm on the River Plate

<t> Zimm postulates that Harwood, as a former member of the faculty at the Royal Naval College' Senior Officer's War Course from 1934 to 1936, would have been familiar with the tactics to be used when encountering one of the panserschiffes. Extensive war games were simulated and a set of rules, C.B....

RE: Japanese Attrition

<t> Thanks for all the assistance. The best option seems to be to surround the Japanese on all six sides of a hex to completely cut off all supplies. Maybe the Japanese set up some sort of pre Ho Chi Minh trail system to supply distant units behind allied lines. I need to brush up on my Santayana......

RE: Japanese Attrition

<t> The hex is 57,54. That particular hex has no roads or rail of any kind. I avoided moving armored units into that hex as it is jungle/forest, but perhaps AE doesn't care? I have control of Rangoon, Pegu, Chiang Mai, Moulmein, Rahaeng, Pisanuloke, Tavoy, and Mergui. The Japanese still hold Bangkok...

RE: Japanese Attrition

Yes, I am playing against the AI. Under Game Options, the AI Difficulty Level is set at Historical. If the AI ignores supply requirements at that level, it would explain a lot. The bombing causes some disables, but over time the Japanese units have actually increased their AV.

Japanese Attrition

<t> I have played AE for many years but I have just run into a new situation: Japanese land unit attrition. Early in the war, when allied units are isolated, they eventually disperse. In my current game, I've isolated a large Japanese force just southeast of Pegu. I have captured every city in the s...

Game Save Folder

<t> I'm trying to find out if it is possible to change the default folder that games are saved in. I also have questions as to why some allied submarines can be rearmed at a base and some can not. I realize that in reality not all bases would have the right torpedoes for US, British and Dutch subs, ...

Again, will debate this further as we get to that point in the battle

Oh, OK, I'm beginning to see the way you are organizing this thread. Mea culpa. I'll be standing by. And thanks for setting this up Warspite (can't imagine where you got that moniker [;)]).
