Re: An Odd Question Re Solitaire Play

For 54 years I have played almost exclusively solitaire. I had waned since losing space for board set up as my wife thought that clothes, eating and visitors were more important  Then TOAW came to my rescue. Decisive Campaigns, WITE and others followed.
It was my cool down after work, my ...

RE: Strategic Rail Movement

It was leaving units in rail mode that was the problem. Didn't reqliwe that changing the mode didn't reset capacity until the next turn. Thanks
Post Xmas - when I give myself WITE2 as a present - I'll be back with plenty more questions

Strategic Rail Movement

In March 42 I cannot put units into rail mode? Units already in rail mode can use strategic movement but F2 seems to have stopped working? Tried removing units in rail mode in case of overload but no change?
Any advice?

Normandy 44

Was my favorite D Day scenario but 1st turn is now problematical with coastal artillery decimating transports as they move to the coast?
Naval bombardment suppresses them but takes turn time which doesn't allow for invasion. Any know if this is an issue or I'm doing something dumb.

Speed of AI processing

Still love the game but the AI game in Case Yellow is taking 30+ minutes. Is this a problem for anyone else?

AI Turn Speed

GS4 is a great improvement but since I invaded USSR the AI turn takes 4 or 5 minutes! It's like WITE on sedatives[:'(]
Running Windows 10 64. Is anyone else having a problem?

RE: OVERLORD 44

Thanks, a work around but allows me to get on with the scenario.
Am I right that this wasn't a problem in TOAW 3?

OVERLORD 44

<t> After turn 1 any attempt at landing seems to cause exorbitant losses with units evaporating because of artillery fire.<br/>
Even transporting is risky as coastal artillery destroys embarked units en-route. Didn't happen in TOAW3 ?<br/>
Can I counter this or how far inland do I need to clear ...

RE: Worried about longevity

Not a worry. If there was only one game I was allowed it would be TOAW. I have been with it since the start and though I occasionally cheat on her with other games I keep coming back.

RE: My Experience with Learning WIR

Fantastic. I used to love WIR and by using the editor could do some "what-if" games.
The [re]learning curve though has been stopping me from going back to a truly innovative game so look forward to your posts.[:)]

RE: german win easy mod

Cant answer the mods question but for an 'easy' win you can experiment with the options to either increase Axis supply, morale etc or decrease the Soviet.
These changes can be much more powerful than 'merely' adding Axis units.

RE: What inspires us to play WITE

and like WIR man of us will return to it for many years to come. The depth and scope of the both the game and the subject are key to this
I do wish though that someone would do a graphics upgrade to WIR - would probably make it better than many more modern games if they did.

RE: recommendation please

<t> It doesn't really compare to ATG. <br/>
It is a historical simulation with one of the best, IMHO, engines yet at an operational level. The importance of maneuver, air power and combined arms really shine through. If you are interested in the Poland campaign and/or France 40 this is a game that ...

RE: Thinking of buying but..

I had WITE first and then DC. The interface probably means that WITE is the easier of the games to pick up and play BUT to master it - not sure as I haven't got close.
As noted above the ability to customise the AI strength means that meaningful games can be had from the start.

RE: Worth getting into this gme

<t> Don't wait, I don't think that WITE 2 will be so different from 1.08 [experts will soon say if this is true] that you will need to relearn. I have been lax in my dedication to the game recently but would never take it off my hard disk. Financially I would hope that some discount for existing ...

RE: Balance factors

<t> I think the importance of the balance factors are sadly neglected. For those of us, i.e. me, with limited ability it allows us to enjoy a game against better players AND the AI. <br/>
Agree that logistics is key though I tend to lower my 'opponents' rather than increase my own logistics. I also ...

RE: The Germans must have production in WITE2

A cry from the 'less committed'.
I hope the developers remember not all of us want WITP levels of detail so by all means put a production option in but please give an option for AI production.
