I've done that in the instances that I can, but it only works if you have different models that you can set as obsolete

That's a great tip.

Perhaps I don't understand how coding AI works, but it seems that a script that follows OJsDad "explore sector" technique wouldn't be that complicated.

Well... I think the issue is more that they should differentiate between different weapon types.

For example, an ion cannon is a unique weapon category separate from lasers, so until assault blasters or shatterforce lasers are developed, you will always see Maxos.
