RE: Small group lookinf for more players

<t> The KS group is pretty easy going. They generally only command a brigade or a small division each due to the difficulty of commanding larger groupings than that. They do have division and corps commanders, but those people only take direct command of a brigade or a couple of artillery batteries ...

RE: Small group lookinf for more players

You should introduce yourself at the Kriegspiel forum. KriegSpiel Forum They play HITS, usually on the weekends. They too play co-op if the group is smaller than 6.

RE: FoW & Mini-Map

If you are playing on historic difficulty or custom with limited camera movement, you won't be able to jump around via the mini-map. You will have to play on normal or below.

RE: Courier Questions

<t> The courier system has several holes, so the shortcomings you mentioned in 1&2 are something we have to live with. Hopefully a sequel to SOW will address these. It would be a nice feature if advanced units would report back periodically and let the player know what they see.<br/>

RE: HQ in the Saddle (HITS) - advice?

<t> Yes, if you want to leave one regiment as a reserve and move/change formations with the others, you need to detach it.<br/>

If you want to accumulate the points necessary, you need to place one regiment and yourself on the objective as quickly as possible and never move until the game is ...

RE: HQ in the Saddle (HITS) - advice?

<t> Glad to hear you are getting the hang of things. The Iron Brigade scenario is a good one for HITS play at the brigade level. The Jackson, what-if, scenario is a good one for corps play. They allow good opportunities to practice commanding from the saddle, but are not so fast paced that you are ...

RE: HQ in the Saddle (HITS) - advice?

<t> It sounds as if you did a pretty good job for your first time playing this way. Don't worry about your score. The numbers that determine whether you were victorious or defeated are determined by playing the game in the Goodyear Blimp with instant orders given and most units TC'd. You are now ...

RE: HQ in the Saddle (HITS) - advice?

<t> I rarely remember which units are mine at the start of the game. The very first thing I do is go to my OOB and look at the characteristics of all my sub-commanders. That way I will know which ones I can count on for attack or defense or keep in reserve, (usually the poorest ones). Doing that ...

RE: HQ in the Saddle (HITS) - advice?

<t> I play at Custom level with camera height set to 2 feet, (has to be manually set in the ini file), with couriers at brigade level and above. The map has just the eyeball on it. I have printed out a set of the command maps that I have in plastic sleeves. I use water soluble markers to delineate ...

RE: HQ in the Saddle (HITS) - advice?

<t> I only play HITS so this advice comes from that perspective. The largest number of complaints about the game seem to be related to the path units take once they are in battle. This is of the conga line or snake movement of troops. Much of this behavior is due to players bunching their troops too ...

RE: About to Purchase.. which one?

<t> As division commander, it is the spacing between the brigades that needs to be considered. An aggressive brigade commander will prefer to deploy his regiments into a single line and bring his full brigade down on the enemy. He may occasionally leave one regiment in reserve, but not always. If ...

RE: About to Purchase.. which one?

<t> No, it definitely is not TW. The AI was designed to elicit human responses. It does not slavishly follow your orders. Rather it tries to act like a human commander. It may misinterpret them, react slowly, or act rashly sometimes. The AI commander's personality traits are listed on the OOB screen ...

RE: Great Game & Expected Frustration

<r> <QUOTE><s>[quote]</s>I'm not that bothered re: the graphics - yes they aren't up to the standards of the Total War Series but the game concept to my mind is far superior. The one thing missing from the Hits graphically is a telescope to allow division and corps commanders, standing a distance ...

RE: About to Purchase.. which one?

As you are just starting out, I would suggest that you buy Gettysburg first. The landscape is much more open and it is easier to see what your troops are doing. Chancellorsville maps are heavily wooded and are probably best enjoyed once you are comfortable with the mechanics of the game.

So learn to be a "commander" not a min/maxer or a control freak.

RE: Question about Artillery. Am I doing it wrong?

<t> All units will target the enemy that is closest to it. With artillery, you have the ability to select any individual target that is in sight and range. To do so, select a gun and click the button that looks like a cross-hair. Then click on the regiment you want to target. The gun should ...
