Re: Tech Support FAQ (Updated for Distant Worlds: Universe)

Pretty sure I have it already, because I can play other videos without issues. I've run DVDs on it, too. But since it works with the video turned off, I'm fine without it. I often skip intros anyway and never watch them more than the first time. I tested the game for only a short time and it seems ...

Re: Tech Support FAQ (Updated for Distant Worlds: Universe)

Can't get to any options menu because the game won't launch. I can load the menu, watch refuel pirate ships and repair battle damage and other messages, then it simply gives up and returns me to the desktop. Tried many times, tried as admin, tried updating. Same result every time. Can't get beyond ...

RE: V1.04 update?

As far as I know, Red Turn is the only DLC for Unity of Command. I got it from unityofcommand.net for $10. You need version 1.04 of the base game to run it/ At the moment, Matrix has 1.03, but you can register at unityofcommand and they will send you the link to the DL for 1.04.

Second thoughts

<t> After a dozen or so scenarios and staring the campaign, here are my revised thoughts:<br/>
<br/>
It's often tough. The AI can exploit holes in your line and cut off your supply, and will ignore the likelihood of being cut off itself. So you need to pay attention to both your front line ...

RE: V1.04 update?

<t> I also got my update from Tomislav at 2x2 and was very impressed by their good customer service. I had put in a ticket here, but the response was vague - an update would be available sometime, but nothing specific. That does make me seriously consider whether I should buy any more from Matrix or ...

RE: Mod or scenario editor FAQ?

Found a brief guide to scenario creation at unityofcommand.net, but it's a bit vague on many aspects. Anyone have something better?

RE: Defining map sizes box?

Got an answer on unityofcommand.net. Seems you have to drag the mini map to the borders of the main map, and then grab the box border. When you start to create a scenario, the border resets to the furthest edges of the map, and has to be dragged in every time to create a smaller playing area.

RE: Can someone explain the Opart 3.ini?

Thanks, Panama. You are right: it's 3.2 something or other. Will update and see if that works. Other than that, all my drivers are up to date, hardware and software (I maintain them that way).
Will report back after update...

Defining map sizes box?

<t> I've tried to follow the instructions in the editor PDF, but I cannot define a map size when I start to create a new scenario. Can someone please explain it step by step?<br/>

I can do everything else in a new scenario. I can move and resize maps in existing scenarios, just not create my ...

Mod or scenario editor FAQ?

<t> Anyone have something written about modding the graphics, or how to use the scenario editor? Would like to try my hand at some graphic ideas, but not sure where to start (just replace PGN files?).<br/>
<br/>
And there are some variables in the scenario editor that I'm not quite sure about yet ...

RE: First thoughts

<t> Just played a few scenarios with this game - got it yesterday, and haven't read the manual so I don't know any of the finesse required.<br/>

First thoughts: the AI is smarter than I expected, and bolder. Got out of a few situations where I expected to trap it in pockets out of supply ...

RE: Can someone explain the Opart 3.ini?

<t> The game screen opens only to a window at best about 2/3rd my screen size. The icon panel is so small that the icons appear as mere blurs, almost indistinguishable rather than icons. It's difficult to see any map or unit detail except at the highest zoom level (even then the text is grainy ...

RE: Assigning Attacks

<t> Interesting. I was trying to figure out the game via the tutorial - just DL'ed yesterday - and double click doesn't do anything on my system at all. There are no tooltips over the icon panel, so I have no idea what these tiny icons do, either (display issues prevent it from opening to full ...
