Re: Adding new races

I tried the new race. They have no ships and never build any. I suspect the race ID needs to be added in Shiphulls.xml but haven't tried it.

Re: Any docs on in-game editor?

Thanks for the information I really appreciate it. I suspected non research bonus's and 'empire' bonus' had to placed on colonized planets but wasn't sure.

Using the editor then can help fine tuning your race beyond what's available in game setup.

Any docs on in-game editor?

I've been playing with it but there's some things I do not understand.

When I go to add a bonus: IE research all 5% and chose "item" then it creates a research spot that I can build a station. If I choose "empire" instead of "item" nothing happens in game to create a station. Also much of the list ...

Hope they get to this soon as I am not a fan of the Space Opera Races and have plans for more High Sci-fi races.

Of course if your using a 'planer' your by default having the A.I. think ahead. GOAP is exactly that and if set up correctly can be thinking multiple turns ahead. You just set up your goals accordingly. The end goal being the winner and several goals ...

RE: celsius to fahrenheit please

I blame it on King James, who one night while drinking stuck out his foot with the sore toe and said, "that's a foot." Later after much drinking he pulled down his pants, "That's an inch" and we've been stuck with the crap ever since.

RE: celsius to fahrenheit please

<t> Well it's not useless to us in the states as everything is measured by Fahrenheit here. It's the same with meter/feet. Our cars have miles per hour on our speedometer, not meters per hour. So if you've used that method alll your life you can't just mentally convert everything on the fly. It ...

celsius to fahrenheit please

<t> Those of us in the states are used to using Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. On planet creation it just doesn't click and is hard to get my head around and it's difficult to do mental conversions. Be nice if there was an option in game.<br/>

As an example when I see 40 Celsius I'm thinking ...

RE: HOI 4 disappointing preview

<r> I really liked HOI2. I often modded it so I could start earlier and play what-if's. to me it was their best HOI game. Then came HOI3. Aside from the bugs and map errors-which were huge (rains so long even noah would drown)-it failed on multiple fronts--mainly mechanics and presentation. Instead ...

RE: Lost in Windows 8

<t> A lot of what ends up missing happens in court and is not because it was left out. When i was at MS I could take home alpha or beta builds of any upcoming OS and try them out. The alpha of WinXP had the best firewall I had ever seen. It had the best media player I had ever seen. But by the time ...

RE: Lost in Windows 8

<t> lol yeah sorry about that. The point being Windows 8 is a mobile based GUI across everything-- It's like redressing the horse and carriage to replace a toyota concidering the base tech here has been dead 100 years and ain't ever going to change from being a horse and carriage. All to support the ...

<t> Indeed. the problem with car/truck batteries is their lifespan. If you can get 3 years your lucky. Remember the 5 year battery years ago? Where did they go? Well, there really was no 5 year battery. it was a marketing scheme. Garantee a battery for 5 years to give the impression of better ...

<t> Well, boats and RVs run DC. For solving the energy crisis it is not practical--the reason for AC (alternating current) is transmission. Otherwise our lines would be enormously thick. As an example transmission lines in Europe are roughly twice as thick because they run at the less efficient ...

<t> Actually what I think was behind the move was a fast penny pench buck. The "One size fits all" approach that would save them doing a version for Desktop, smartphone and tablet. Just have the same GUI across the board--and save all that development cost. A generalization of an OS that would work ...

We tolerate the GUI on our smartphones because it's about all you can do on that tiny screen. But to put that GUI on a desktop seems like a special kind of stupid to me.

I'm 10 years in. I had no problems with the mentioned race_16.png file. Playing as the federation. Nice to see the different GUI elements per race. great nice touch! Music fits. Love the "red alert" replacement as well. all in all looks great...no issues thus far. Great Job.

Even the steam edition works without being on steam. Just run the .exe directly from the steam folder. I played it this way when I had moved and was without internet for 2 days.

<r> "Evolution" mixes two things together, one real, one imaginary. Variation (microevolution) is the real part. The types of bird beaks, the colors of moths, leg sizes, etc. are variation. Each type and length of beak a finch can have is already in the gene pool and adaptive mechanisms of finches ...
