RE: Campaign mode?

<t> That's great news. I'm really pleased at how this title is coming along! Loved Steel Panthers back in the day. More recently, I sunk many happy hours into Flashpoint Campaigns: Red Storm. However, I'm not as interested in the sandbox aspect, much preferring the drama of linked missions and an ...

RE: So, what is coming next?

BTW - the Steven Zaloga book (Red Thrust) I mentioned in another thread is set during a Southern Storm-style operation across the Czech/German border. For anyone who wants a preview of the terrain and the units in that area, the fictional narrative will whet your appetite.

RE: So, what is coming next?

<r> Huzzah! This is the first I've heard of the plans for the Red Storm DLC packs. I know Southern Storm is a long ways off, and software development being what it is, it'll likely get pushed into 2016. For those not in the software industry, there's a saying that "the first 90% of the project takes ...

RE: Issuing Complex Orders?

<t> I think I'm seeing the same thing in 2.06. Units with Screen orders are waiting too long, if they're in good terrain to start with. M3A1 Bradley Scouts on Screen are waiting until T-80BVs are 1 hex away, then failing to displace before getting blasted. Don't recall them being quite so "sticky ...

Thanks LuckyJim. Appreciate the quick reply. I just searched online and can't find a copy of the Designer's Notes, and eBay is listing NDC starting at $75 (!). Will keep looking...

RE: Great game but struggling here

<t> Also, would it be possible for Capn Darwin, MR and the rest of the OTS team to include Game Designer notes in Southern Storm? It's been great reading these forums and learning more about the details "under the hood" in this superb game. Would be awesome to read more about the assumptions behind ...

RE: Great game but struggling here

<t> +1 for the idea of supplying an units and equipment primer for new players. Even though I'm a long-time Cold War student, there are always new things to learn about the equipment and tactics of the period.<br/>

I too really miss the inclusion of Game Designer notes. I still have Frank ...

RE: What is the role of infantry?

<t> My biggest problem with infantry in the current engine is that we can't separate the IFVs from the dismount squads. This leads to either IFVs suffering very high losses when the MBTs roll on top of them at point-blank range, or positioning the IFVs at some distance but pulling their infantry ...

RE: What is the role of infantry?

<t> Under 2.06, I've had infantry perform quite well in cities, IF they're Dug-In (Hold) and Soviet armor rolls right over the top of them. Even 1 hex distance drops their effectiveness dramatically. But since the AI tends to roll towards VP locations along roads, it's not hard to position infantry ...

RE: Is there persistence in the campaigns for enemy forces?

<t> Gotcha. Thanks for the quick response. <br/>
<br/>
That persistence of larger organizations might be something to consider for future games in the series. It's one of the best things about Wargame Airland Battle. When two battlegroups would fight (e.g. 18th Panzerbrigade vs 365th Guards ...

Is there persistence in the campaigns for enemy forces?

<t> (Don't know if this has been answered already, but the game manual and a forum search both draw a blank)<br/>
<br/>
I know the campaigns have persistence for the core units of friendly forces. Is there any similar persistence for the enemy forces being fought across the campaign battles? <br ...

RE: Automatic Counterbattery

<t> It was last turn, and I'm now at 1:50 into the battle. So assuming ~22-30 min per command cycle probably turn 4 or 5? After just 1 bombardment of HE, C 4th Bn/3rd FA lost all 4. 1 HE strike hit B 4th Bn/3rd FA and it lost 3. After one more strike, 3/A/3rd Bn/41st Inf Regiment is down to 1 M2A1 ...

<t> Thanks all for the replies. (Delayed response as I was tied up with work the past week)<br/>

If I'm understanding the logic correctly, given enough time a conventional battle would have almost certainly escalated to TNWs. However, having conventional forces engaged first for days or even ...

RE: AI counter battery

<t> Is there a way for friendly artillery units with these Firefinder radars to signal where on the map the enemy artillery is firing from? In Hell on Wheels (first battle), I just lost most of my artillery to CB. Soviet artillery is pulverizing me, and (lacking any attack helicopters), I'm ...
