How to safely invade?

<t> Trying to invade the Solomons and get Guadalcanal it seems to me that the 3 Japanese CV parked north of the island are just able to pound my beach landings like crazy. My CVs close by don't intervene at all (they are in fleet mode and well withing 5 hexes from the coast) so it's just a bloodbath ...

RE: Best use of the patrol group ?

I have seen them used to recon enemy fleets, trying to make out their composition. Which is vital BTW

Solomons Islands

I wonder why nobody plays this scenario on youtube nor comments on it here in the forum. It seems to be the perfect scenario to practice naval combat and landings...and I am having a very hard time escaping the clutch of that beasty Japanese stack (3 CV and 2 BB group)

Interface question

<r> When you select multiple units in a hex (with all of them checked) at the bottom of the list appear some stats and data that look like an average of all the units in the hex...but then you look into the specific units' details and they are not. Can't find the answer to this in the manual. Help ...

forests and ambushes

Ok so I figured out that scout are great for long term...scouting...but I keep being ambushed in forests and from forests. I thought infantry was a good choice for sweeping forests but they get jumped too.
Any tactical advice for a newbie?

Thanks!

development question

How was this game created? What's the language/suite used and what are the capabilities of the editor? Really curious about this development wise...

So opinions? How is this game after all?

<t> I have been on the fence for a bit and now I'm tryng to decide myself.<br/>
Gary Grigsby is definitely too granular and convoluted for me so this is looking right up my alley.<br/>
Still I fear it is a bit too simplistic and it gives me a 'strategic level panzer corps' feel.<br/>

Aide de camp to do list: items to be "checked"

In the Aide de Camp "to do list" (like focus and artillery cards) it would be satisfying to see issues being "checked" when done. I reckon this could be applied to other "reminders" in the "reps" menu. Small thing but meaningful IMO.

<t> Hi Hofstadter, thanks a lot for your video. Unfortunately the concepts you explained are quite easy to grasp as they are well explained in the manual.<br/>
I was more curious in watching the actual build up of a strategy. In fact I'm wondering if isolating Marseille and pounding it with air ...

RE: How CVs are calculated

Yes, the Bruce Geryk articles are really nice, I've read them all.
Anyway you guys are right, perfect information is not something desirable in a game like WITW. I guess I'd like to learn how to handle this size of operation (I'm more a tactical kind of player).

RE: How CVs are calculated

Yes, that's exactly the point. Too vague. If you peek at the preview numbers on the pop up you just see a number. I was asking if there is a way of seeing how much of that number is ground element, how much unit, how much fort and so on... sadly it seems there is not such a way.

How CVs are calculated

Is there a way to understand how cvs are calculated? The little preview on the pop up is one of the most useful numbers in the game, still not understanding where the numbers come from could be frustrating...

RE: Tutorial Demand

For example, I'd like to see how a good player plans a somewhat "simple" operation like operation dragoon. After having landed how you decide where to hit and how, which unit to support with assigned support units and with what kind of units...these kind of issues

RE: War in The West: The most Beautiful

Reading the manual on an ipad is definitely uncomfortable...I remember there was a way of paying a small price to get upgraded to the phisical one... any hint?
