A good question for the devs to consider in all of this: How explicit is a lot of this information in the game's actual resources (galactopedia, manual, etc)?

- changed Upgrade Design button so that now selects best upgrade component for each existing component, retaining the same component family. Previously the Upgrade Design button simply selected the highest tech level component for the category. See button tooltip for more info

Thanks for the feedback. Just to be clear, what you're reporting is that after updating the ship design of one of your destroyers in a fleet and after giving a retrofit command, instead of retrofitting the older design to new ones the automation just builds new ones?

There is! Cycle through the views in the bottom right, it's next to the nebula views.

Graphically it could be clearer. But it is a helpful view - I use it anytime I'm building a monitoring station.

Distance doesn't appear to be a factor. Fleet strength is certainly not a factor. I have started a new game and will investigate in more detail.


I'm not certain, but my sense was sensors and long range sensors either come later or are not as powerful as before? That could impact fleet reaction ...

My 2 cents - every 4X should copy the internal politics/bureaucracy model from Shadow Empire. That game does it so well.

A less well done, but still decent version of this is in Stellar Monarch 2.

Space Empires had a sort of combat arena you could try out different designs in to see how they worked against various enemies.

I think we're referring to strategies, rather than exploits (eg multiple mining components per station).

I'm interested in this.

I'm also interested in: what strategies only work for a specific race? One of the biggest problems with this game is that as far as I can tell all strategies work for all races.
