Tides of War first impressions

I've completed the first Tides of War scenario (campaign mode), and I felt that the way things went were pretty unfair to achieve a "winning" score, and there's some issues that need to be resolved in an update:

1) The Designer Notes state that the starting player score is 250, but it's actually ...

Tides of War Scenario #1 Issue

I'm working my way through Scenario #1 of the new Tides of War campaign, and I noticed an issue:

At a certain point, the player is informed of a Real-World SAR emergency, where a civilian ship issued a distress call, and are ordered to dispatch ships/aircraft to rescue the survivors. Part of this ...

Bywater's "The Great Pacific War"

Hello All,

I've been inspired to re-read the 1925 speculative fiction novel "The Great Pacific War" by Hector C. Bywater, which gave a history of a hypothetical naval war between the United States & Japan between 1931 and 1933.

In doing this, I've decided to catalogue and transcribe the battles ...

Denmark Strait: Formation Spacing

I'm not 100% sure if this is a bug or if I'm missing something, as I didn't seem to find an answer in the manual (updated version)

I've just completed the official Denmark Strait, 1941 scenario as Britain, and I actually had a surprising "honey, I broke history!" result, in that I got a flash-fire ...

Re: T-90 classification of a F-35

I'd say it's a "golden BB" detection.

Stealth aircraft are not immune from visual detection, and a tank crewman with a decent enough eyesight could probably spot a fighter flying above them.

Re: CMO v1.09 Public Beta - Build 1776

I'm just hoping for some kind of general status update for two reasons:

-Build 1776 was put up on Nov 25th, over two months ago (understanding the holiday break in late Dec./Early Jan).

- A new DLC was nominally announced as part of a Matrix Games live event, but there's been no status update on ...

Re: Targeting Fuel Facilities

I my experience yes. I usually limit strikes to identified A/C on the ground, facilities to park aircraft undercover, access points, and when specific munitions are available, runways.

Yeah, when I want to strike an airbase, I prioritize parked aircraft above everything else. I usually don't ...

Re: Sea of Japan Crisis - Standing Fast, 1985 -- new beta for testing

I've completed a turn a Version 2. Got a triumph of 840 with no losses to the Japanese.

Ended up sinking all the PLAN warships and submarines, and brought down 4x Badgers.

Honestly, the J-8s in Manchuria and Eastern China based aircraft are really a non-threat. The J-8s don't seem to have the ...

Re: Sea of Japan Crisis - Standing Fast, 1985 -- new beta for testing

I've finished my first playthrough. Got a Triumph of 800 Points.

My only casualty was a single F-4EJ Phantom lost to the tail guns of a Badger. Ended up splashing 4x J-8s and 4x Badgers, as well as all 8 Chinese ships and one submarine that one of my own SSKs stumbled into.

I destroyed all the ...

Re: [SCENARIO TESTING] Operation Sunset: The Battle for Badme (1999)

I'll check this out. I've also become a fan of the Flanker in recent years myself.
I think that's possibly the best non-western Gen-4 fighter.

Re: US BMD capabilities against different target types

Given the threat from ASBMs, many of which have mobile launchers, I feel like there should be development of capabilities to try to engage them in the terminal phase.

Yes it's a serious challenge, but I feel like firing SOME missiles with a low chance of hitting is better than not firing any at ...

Re: Sea of Japan Crisis - Standing Fast, 1985 -- new beta for testing

I've not completed the scenario yet (as it was getting late for me and I needed to go to bed). I left off my save having already had a couple of one-sided aerial skirmishes with J-8s. Didn't lose any Phantoms and splashed all four J-8s. One of my floatplanes also detected, and has been shadowing ...

Re: Sea of Japan Crisis - Standing Fast, 1985 -- new beta for testing

Sweet! Downloading now!

EDIT:

First impressions look pretty good. We haven't had a lot of opportunities to make use of Japanese assets.

One thing to consider about the larger picture is the significant domestic controversy that would ensue within Japan. Since at least the 1950s, the Japanese ...

Re: Drones, and their usage on destroyers and frigates

I think the FireScout unmanned scout helicopter has been in service for some time, hasn't it? It operates off the same facilities as ship-based helicopters.

As for other drones, many of them will be one-way loitering munitions, so they don't need facilities to return the ship.

As for ones that ...

Re: Trump battleship

I think the US has the technical capacity to build warships. Arleigh Burkes are still being built afterall.

What's ruining the process is red-tape, poor project management and generally just having too many cooks in the kitchen.

With the Constellations, a design contest was held, I think 4 or 5 ...

The man is clearly insane. It's 25th amendment time. No way we can do this for another 3 years.

How about taking these types of comments someplace else if you want to rant? There are plenty of places to do that and not start a bunch BS here. Don' bother apologizing, not that I expect it. Just ...

Re: Please use this to post ready scenarios for Community

Not a new scenario, but a small tweak should be made to one scenario in the Pack:

Assault on Banak, 1985

"Realistic Submarine Comms" is enabled on this scenario, but it must be disabled. The player is only in command of this one submarine, so it would be absurd for the submarine's own captain ...

Re: Trump battleship

What a joke.

The displacement on this monstrosity is comparable to the old South Dakota BBs that served in WW2.

The US defense establishment is apparently incapable of building a new frigate without exponentially mushrooming the cost and time to just get the damned keel laid.

There's no way ...
